#exarchs

I’ve always found it strange that Exarchs are as common as, say, Space Marine Sergeants.

In the actual lore there isn’t an Exarch for every squad, they are far rarer than that, and are the ultimate warriors of the Asuryani. The greatest Exarchs are far better fighters than an Autarch, as the Autarch has left the path of the Warrior for that of Command.

You see this in the Lore from time-to-time, in Swordwind for example a Howling Banshee Exarch is able to match the Mortifactor Chapter Master.

So...I’ve always personally felt Exarchs actually belong in the HQ section, as hyper-warrior specialists with the combined experience of several millenia, as opposed to Sergeant-equivalents. 

sharlayan. though they had only just arrived, and by all accounts a homecoming should have been long overdue. clean beds, warm food, nation not under immediate threat ---- a godsend, to some. to y'shtola, such matters were nothing short of complicated.

much like her master, y'shtola's reputation in her hometown was infamous, to say the least. if one penned her with an attitude problem now, they should have seen her studium days, let alone her time as a kit, an ego ill-fitting of her small form. and while her deeds and achievements preceded her, she couldn't say she held any particular fondness for the people, nor the scenery. it was a self-preserving place with little love for outsiders. from birth, it's all she was.

thankfully, the sorceress had company of similar mind. sharlayan was a point of unease from several of her comrades. and while they all played catch-up, y'shtola nursed a glass of wine, sulking in the most elegant way one could, at the last stand.

the warm sun was infuriating, the hearty chatter was maddening. the neat corners and inescapable faultlessness dared to tear a hole in her skull. to be idle, was another. as soon as she had a problem to slave over, all such contempt would wash over her in cathartic waves. for now, this cat would stay while the mice go out and play.

g'raha tia spots her though, of course he would. seemingly had he lost the warrior of light in their hurried escapades of exploration through the city, he'd come to check on a familiar face. (her scowl did her no favors, though she had no want to fix it.) he spouts words of worry, and she only reacts in the most irksome way possible, like her senior.

SHE HAD NOT BEEN KIND TO HIM  ,  THE DAY THE TWO OF  them had at last met. It hadn’t been the best timing on his part, in all fairness  :  she found herself well within her rights not only to suffer her outburst of anger with him, but to long nurse the grudge afterwards. Her anger had been volatile and guilt-ridden, something that hurt her as deeply as she wonders her cutting words may have hurt him, at the time. To present to him a peace offering is entirely outside of her comfort and, in truth, completely necessary. Though the events of the First lie behind them, she supposes she had never truly addressed the events that had transpired there, not between them anyhow.

“Do not make a scene out of it. This is embarrassing as it is.”  The chastise, at least, is lighthearted, as she half-heartedly examines the wrapped up caramels she had presented him with. Not her own cooking, of course, else they’d be a crisp. A little help from a mutual friend was warranted, but did they have to wrap it with a bow? Gods.  “At any rate, it is just candy. There’s no need to be all that emotional about it, honestly. We’ll be working together now and we have been through quite an ordeal already. It seemed fitting to offer my apologies for my unsavory behavior when we met, at last.”

Perhaps it had been a long time due, but she is so very stubborn.
