Life has its way of checking up on those that need a lesson. And though I’ve had many lessons of mine in the past, it shaped me into who I am today.

Somebody I am proud of. Somebody strong. The type of person that finds love within himself he can then offer others. His family and friends, co workers. The kind of person that, at the end of the day, follows the pattern he has learned inch by inch, to better himself, and those surrounding his presence.

Others, are not so lucky. For they never learn their lesson. At the end of the day, you need to use both your mind and heart. Or you’ll be forever stuck in darkness. Darkness that will later on consume you, and you will only see fault in others. This, is where you will risk getting stuck in your darkest thoughts. Until responsibility is taken, you will be stuck in a maze. It takes a lot of self-understanding, and to love yourself, to accept those faults, and grow, until you become strong enough to fix those faults and straighten your spine - this time for your own heart.

Nobody ever told me it would be an easy journey. I have gone through a trial and error experience, yet, through all these years, I realized a long time ago I am not innocent. I was, in fact, a creature that thrived on feeling misery, until I grabbed my own collar and shook myself back to reality. I believe there’s a mystery to me that colors me rather black and gray - but there’s light, and a touch of gold and silver too, in that darkness. With such darkness, comes a lot of responsibility. Not to pull other souls into the void with you. And once you accept, and respect your darkness, it will not interfere. Instead, it will become a comforting friend by your side. A shadow, if you may.

Now, people will wrong you, and you will wrong people, too. Yet, what we have to understand, is that this is what comes with being a human. The key to this, is to learn how to forgive. With time, I did, too. And with time, I also learned to trust people with hearts worth more than gold, doing the same for me. Allowing me into their warm arms and into their hearts, only to slowly but steadily, become what I have shaped myself into today. For that, I am eternally grateful.

There is so much happiness within my soul. So much success and going forward, I know I’ll be seeing many smiles around me. Happiness is a blessing. And I am happy to own it in my life. And I welcome it, with open arms. Always.

This is actually something I've been thinking of ever since @the-punforgiven made this post.

Magical plants and animals do exist, and have always existed, but the disastrous effects wrought by the Starfall have led to areas of potent magical saturation, especially since one of the opening "acts" of the Starfall was the murder of Ata, father of dragons and god of magic*, music, and water. Monuments to failed city wide spells, the last battlegrounds of massive constructs and terrible monsters, the graves of gods both minor and major, all are highly dangerous areas where magic now runs wild.

There are, however, still naturally occurring areas of high magic. It's commonly believed that some of the older ones served as the "birthplace" of the first elves and goblins (as much as a spirit deciding it wants to be "real" can be born).

To bring it back to punforgiven's post, I've been thinking that, in this world, what separates an animal from a monster is the influence of magic upon a particular plant or animal. While some animals adapt to magic well, magic as a primal force has a mutating effect on all living things that push too far too quickly.
