Evolution is often imagined as a relentless march toward perfection.
If that’s true, why are human minds so different from one another?
Why do some people seek novelty while others seek routine? Why are some drawn to patterns, others to people, others to exploration, and others to deep specialization?
Perhaps diversity itself was never a flaw to be eliminated. Increasingly, evolutionary researchers are exploring the possibility that different cognitive styles represent adaptive trade-offs whose value depends on the environment and the needs of the group rather than a single ideal way of thinking.
