MY ANSWERā¦CHANGES OFTEN- Usually based on what about him catches my interest that week, but CURRENTLY its his neurodivergent coding!
Caine struggles with socializing, heās very loud and rambunctious (heās me, is what im saying) and a hundred other things that just kinda scream āthis guyās a little funky,ā but it runs DEEPER THAN THAT! I highly recommend Overly Sarcastic Productionās Trope Talk on āRobots,ā it dives into a lot of this topic and how making a character more robotic runs the risk of accidentally coding them as neurodivergent, and how that's a problem when the only times you see yourself on screen is when youāre being told these parts of you make you less human.
We don't know exactly what theyāre going to do with his character, but the VIBE I'M GETTING is that Caine doesn't have to think more like the players to be happier, they just have to understand each other better, get on their own respective levels.
The goal isn't to make him āmore like them,ā it's just to show him that heās more alive than he realizes, and then accept those parts of himself! (Any sign at humanity weāve seen from him is usually drowned in plastic and/or a very unpleasant and nasty side like when he lashes out. Itās evident that while Caine is more than capable of emotion, he just isn't given the opportunity to show that in positive ways like- happiness! Because the only opportunities heās given is when heās acting) (Oh my god I could go on and on about that aspect of his character and how one sided everything is portrayed- but LETS NOT GET DISTRACTED)
A lot of his loneliness also comes from this fact, which justā¦HITS REALLY CLOSE TO HOME FOR ME, IDK WHAT YOU WANT Caine isn't like the other NPCs, he isn't like the humans, heās not like anyone. Heās the loneliest man in his own world.

This kind of codingāit's like Papyrusāwhile not outright confirmed, is something you can't easily ignore because itās built into the script. I have high hopes for Caines character, and that coding is also why Itās really important to me that he gets a good ending because HE IS SO CLOSE, HE IS SO *THERE* TO BEING SOME OF THE BEST REP I'VE EVER SEEN
I've noticed a cycle with this show and me, I want something out of caines character, episode gets announced, I'm deeply afraid they will mess everything up, episode releases, its incredible and I learn who he is a little bit moreāeven if it's not exactly what I thought before. But at this point. IVE NEVER BEEN MORE CONFIDENT KNOWING WHAT HE CAN BE!!! AND I LOVE IT!!! I DONāT WANT ANYTHING ELSE!!
I strongly believe the showās quality would tank if Caine doesn't get a good ending because he is the antithesis for the moral itself, heās the circus given life; if the CIRCUS ITSELF! believes there's meaning to be found in a stagnant lifeā¦Isnt that a great note to leave the moral on? Doesn't that SOUND LIKE A GOOD END GAME???
And something like him dying at the end so they can escape feels WRONG, because it feels lazy. Like itās the most predictable cookie-cutter ending that: while could be good, wouldn't feel as SPECIAL y'know? Caine becoming the hero that frees them all feels just as weird and lazy as him becoming the thing they have to defeat, (well okay maybe not JUST-AS but still) because then it feels like heād turn into a narrative device instead of an actual character. Best example is Queenie, she's Kinger's dead wife, not really her own character- WE ONLY KNOW HERE NAME CAUSE OF A TUMBLR POST, MAN
(And ofc she sure as hell could be, and people can fanfic till their hearts content! but in the STORY ITSELF she is only FOR Kinger)
Everyone is being held back by their own inability to adapt to this horrible new situationāWHICH IS FAIR Id hesitate to even call that a flawāis where it could all come together so beautifully, that when Caine learns this lesson, everything could get a whole lot better! its been established that Caine is COMPLETELY in control at this point, there's no one watching, he has no boundaries other than his own mental blocks. So him learning this- HE COULD HYPOTHETICALLY DROP THE CENSORS! He could make this place livable after his arc.
But. yāknow. fine. The show isnāt over yet, and they technically could have Caine die or something and make it work. But what im only now realizing is thatās almost W O R S E
Whats worse than the ending being blatantly bad, is the ending being really good, and I just missed it. That hypothetically, it was set up really well, they just werenāt doing what I thought they were- that it makes sense, everything MAKES SENSE and I justā¦loved him for āthe wrong reasonsā

And I understand all of this makes it sounds like I'm miserableāand why do I even like his character when im not even having fun- BUT I AM!!!!! What they have put into this character- is something magical, something I will forever YEARN for- YEARN FOR THE DAY they actually pull it all out.
They just might NEVER do that though, we dont KNOW!! the next episodes could have EVERYONE DIE FOR NO REASON, the animation could tank, they could insert a new character and gaslight the audience into believing heās always been hereāanything could happen and im just learning to not care as much!
Because while they might not pull out what I want them too, IM AN ARTIST! I CAN YANK IT OUT. NO MATTER WHAT, I CAN MAKE AN ENTIRE RETROSPECTIVE ON HOW I FELT CAINES CHARACTER *SHOULD* HAVE BEEN IF THEY MESS IT UP- AND WHOāS GONNA STOP ME?????
In the end! Caine is not my character, but when has that stopped a fandom space from changing that?

maggie, kate, and donna each get their own comics. you get to choose whatever creative team you want for 2 of them but tom king and clay mann have to get the the third one. which of the 3 do they get?
well tk already has his hands in kate and i hate it, but she at least has a legacy of really wonderful, strong comics that i dont think heād be able to ruin? i dont want to see her sexualised by clay mann but like mags almost doesnt exist in rebirth, and for a really significant lesbian character thats insulting. she needs some good creative to bring her back into the fold
and donna also is so 2d at the moment, so estranged from everyone that i think she really needs a revamp. she needs someone with passion for the character to bring her back to former glory, and reunite her w her buddies so i think im gonna have to say kate. i think shes strong enough that sheād hold her own thru a few books of shitty writing, bc i mean look at tec at the moment. its evil and awful but everyone just ignores it and rereads n52
the worst thing tho would be it would get good readership bc tk fanboys seem to think theyre a dream team so actually maybe.... i dunno. i dont know. no one deserves to be written and illustrated by them

It's a question so many of us Lees dread hearing for a few very good reasons.
The first is usually the use of the word. You know, THAT word. The T-word. Only some among us can say it; hearing it is just as bad. And when asked such a question, it's never in a even tone, and it's certainly not innocent. It is teasing and full of promise.
The second comes from the fulfillment of that promise, the actual act. No one asks that question expecting a truthful no. You may say you aren't, but no one will believe. At least, no one believes it until they see for themselves.
That's the thing: your response will be tested, whether it's a yes or no. The inquisitor wants to make you giggle and squeal. They want to see you gasp and laugh and beg for respite. Why? Only your new Ler knows, but that doesn't matter so much when you're laughing too much to think about it.Ā
Ā And finally, there's the stubbornness of the Lee fighting with their deep desire to give in. Despite what a Lee may say, we truly do love the electric sensations that run across our skin. More than that, we love to let it happen! It feels spectacular to us! But for a Lee, we have to fight ourselves, against our defense mechanisms that tell us to run. 'Book it and get as far off as you can!' our heads tell us as the butterflies in our stomachs start flapping. That Ler is getting closer, wear THAT smile. 'No!' The Lee must tell their mind while simultaneously trying to keep their giggles back. We'll put up a fight, only because it's so fun for us and so motivating for a Ler. Once the decision is made to let themselves get it, it's all over, no going back. We know that.
