I was traveling for 7 weeks in Southeast Asia. The trip itself was amazing -- a lot of variety and adventure. Usually, I leave for a trip and back burner my life in the US, but this time the drama here at home, was epic and intrusive

Here’s the review:

Had my travel companion for the trip cancel at the last minute

Discovered that I had to either settle a lawsuit that had been going on for nearly 4 years, or fly from Asia to the US to appear in person in court

Best friend’s mom died suddenly

Roommate initially said that he couldn’t pay rent, then decided to not pay rent any more and instead told me he would be billing me a day rate for staying at the house

Roommate racked up utility bills in excess of $800/month for each month I was gone (more than twice, nearly three times any bill I’ve ever received for any month in 20 years)

Roommate moved in his ex-girlfriend into the house even though I told him no when he wanted her to move in on Christmas Eve - small house, no privacy and I’ve only met her once in passing. His excuse was that though I clearly said no when I was home, he figured I’d be okay with it when I was gone (?).

Roommate decided to drive MY car, without my permission or insurance

Evicted roommate - he wouldn’t leave until I was on my way home from the airport

My cleaning lady it turns out was coaching my roommate about how to bilk the most $$$ out of me

Fired the cleaning lady

The huge oak tree in front of my house fell over taking out my car and fence. This had the odd side effect of stopping the roommate from driving the car. He denied ever driving it but everyone saw him driving around, and in photos of damage to the car, the back is full of his tools.
