𝓔𝓿𝓮 -this is a theme. This is imagery that has repeated itself in my work for years, and will probably always come back. Eve is the original scapegoat. From the beginning of mythology, women have been blamed and men have been heralded as heroes. Whether they are sirens or harpies or mermaids, luring men to their death, or frail maidens in need of saving- women are rarely the hero. They’re the Medusa or banshees, they’re the Sphinx. They’re wicked, they’ll kill you. Women are not held up, and when they are, it’s only for the qualities that men find admirable. Beauty. Virginity. Loyalty. Motherhood. Eve is where it all begins in my earliest narrative, the first time I remember hearing that “it’s the woman’s fault”. I began questioning 𝕎𝕙𝕪 at a fairly early age. Here are four of my Eve paintings, from the most recent to the oldest one I have an image of. Two I still have.
