In your Double Agent au, does Luke still lose his hand? It would seem odd if Anakin cut it off in this verse
If he does, it won’t be at Bespin, and it won’t be Anakin who does it.
You’re right, anon, that I really can’t see any way that Anakin would cut off Luke’s hand in this ‘verse. I’d have to do an awful lot of contriving to make it happen in a way that would fit this version of the characters, and even if I did, well...it would still feel contrived.
However, I’m not ruling out the possibility that something else might happen to Luke (or even to Leia - there are no guarantees here!). I know where this ‘verse is going in a general sense, and I have several plot specifics worked out for down the road, but some things are still in flux.
And with every fic I write, I end up discovering new things about the characters and the ‘verse, things which sometimes end up changing my plans. (The biggest example so far is that, in the very earliest DAV stories, I didn’t even know that Kadee existed. Now she’s a major character and one of the linchpin characters for the whole overarching plot.)
