The doors to the training room open and the vampire prince trudges out, posture stiff and shoulders tense with what I assume is pain.

Everyday he comes out of sword training looking more and more discouraged. With his trial coming up in three months to determine whether he’ll be king, his frustration’s only natural. Maybe his anxiety’s the reason why I haven’t seen him drink blood once since I became his personal guard, and I barely leave his side.

I want to relieve that ache between his shoulders, help ease his tension, but I don't say anything. There’s so much I need to tell him about why I'm here, why I left my clan to find him, and what he is to me. But if I did, there’s a pretty good chance I’d be executed.

He apologizes for making me wait all day again, even though that’s my job, and I follow him close behind as he makes his way down the hallway.

He deserves to know, I’ll tell him soon.
