“The ice-cream season is on again in Kabul and sellers along their red wheel-carts echoing in the streets and alleyways everyday, usually attracting children like the girl in above. However the spring is in full swing and summer will meet the capital in a month, the sky is often cloudy and showers the city in its favor. More pleasantly, cold breezes and winds from cock-crow to the thirsty evenings of Ramadan is still interesting. I was walking by Kabul river to pay a visit and meet a friend, while I met this little girl strolling on tiny concrete walls of the river with her grandpa (outside the pic) and a ice-cream in hand. The river was once one of the beauty attractions of Kabul by drawing the attentions with its pale blue perspective, mostly seen in pictures during 70s or before, but today it is not more than a malodorous mixture of junks, trashes and quagmire. I am recently doing some research and studies on the essential factors and outcomes of water and air pollution in Kabul and sometimes I am paying visit to the effected zones, and the areas around. Unfortunately, there are many factors that nurtures Kabul’s pollution problems, and the ongoing situation of Kabul River is pushing the problem into a serious level that will require more attention in the nearest future. The River is turned into an outdoor and open canalizations that extremely affects the healthy life of Kabul residents both over and under the water.” #Kabul, #Afghanistan.
