New Girl: Katniss
**An Everlark one shot based on the show New Girl for my wonderful, beautiful, amazing beta, SimoneSnickers. This is all you babe!**
So I’m working on a new small project in which I Everlark this show and in particular a certain scene for my super awesome beta. I’m still working on the fic aesthetic and stuff and I only have a small teaser written but I just wanted to share! Let me know what you all think!
Chapter One: It All Started...
It started with an ad on craigslist.
I was looking to move out of the tiny (and way overpriced) three bedroom I shared with my two gorgeous friends, Madge Undersee and Annie Cresta. Both of them were models and after living with them for a year, the late nights, parties, and fabulous lifestyles had been wearing on me. I wanted to remain friends with Madge and Annie but I didn’t think I could keep living with them while I worked a regular day job .
Besides, things had gotten crowded when my best friend Gale had to move in with us after his apartment was wrecked due to a nasty electrical fire. He had been looking for a new place for a month, but when I mentioned my reason for wanting to move out he said he didn't mind (of course he didn’t) the parties or famous people and models wandering through at all hours. He actually got along better with Madge and Annie’s friends than I did, and he could contribute way more in rent (he was an industrial engineer and I was a teacher) than I ever could.
So, really it was simple. Gale wanted in, and I wanted out. We agreed that as soon as I found another apartment he could officially move off the couch and take over my room. The very next day I saw an ad online describing what seemed like the perfect apartment.
It was for a charming and spacious four bedroom with great views and full working kitchen. The roommates described themselves as sensible, responsible, and welcoming. One of them liked to cook, and worked as an artisan pastry chef. The other was a nanny, and the last one works at a famously progressive and female led company. They all sounded like they had stable jobs, and were good hard working women. All things I wanted and needed in my roommates. Besides that, the rent price was significantly lower than what I was paying for the crappy modern shoebox I was living in with Madge and Annie.
So imagine my surprise when I show up to find not three nice girls who needed a new roommate, but instead three young, attractive guys my age.
I was flabbergasted at first, but I went through with the interview anyway, not wanting to be rude and just walk out, although I had no intention of taking the apartment.
“Well Katniss, you seem like you’d be a model roommate. Your renter’s history is excellent, as is your credit score and your references are impeccable. But I have to ask, why would you be willing to live with three slobs like us?” Finnick, the bronze haired adonis looking man who would have made more sense working as a model on the cover of GQ than as an assistant director at a girl boss marketing company asked me with a slightly flirty grin.
I snorted a little at the question and then tramped down my laugh.
“Honestly, when I read the ad on craigslist I thought you all were a bunch of women.” I replied and they all gave me quizzical expressions.
“Oh, come on. A nanny, a pastry chef, and an assistant director at La Femme marketing?” I gestured to each of them in turn. They continued to give me blank looks and I shook my head.
“Not to mention the way the apartment was described.” I added in an annoyed tone.
“What do you mean? How was it described?” The blond, stockily built ‘pastry chef’ named Peeta asked. He looked more like a lumberjack in his flannel shirt that stretched across his incredibly muscular arms and chest a little too tightly, than someone who made donuts and cupcakes for a living.
“I believe the ad used words like sundabbled and toupe.” I replied dryly.
“I told you we shouldn’t have let Peeta write the ad!” Thresh, the handsome and coco skinned giant who looked like he’d be more at home on a professional football field than playing mary poppins to a host of school age kids, cried in aggravation.
“Oh, for Poseidon's sake Peet! Now we’ll only be getting offers from the female side of the population!” Finnick lamented shaking his head.
Peeta’s ears turned pink at the tips and he looked down at his large hands in embarrassment. I suddenly felt like a douchebag, for blaming the whole mix up on him, and his way with words.
“It wasn’t really his fault. I mean-errr- the ad never mentioned any of you all’s gender. I just assumed, which admittedly was pretty arrogant and narrow minded of me. I mean, that would be like you guys assuming I was a guy if I put on my application I was a -a welder or firefighter.” I said in a stuttering attempt to help the good natured blond guy out.
I probably shouldn’t have cared but I just couldn’t stop myself from butting in.
“Thank you, for saying that Katniss.” Peeta replied gratefully. His gentle smile made me feel self conscious and shy and for just a second I imagined what it would be like to see that smile everyday.
Wait no! I’m not moving in with three guys I don’t even know! I thought to myself.
“You’re welcome. And thanks for letting me finish the interview. It was really nice to meet you guys, I hope you find a good roommate.” I said, standing up and slinging my small satchel over my shoulder as I prepared to see myself out.
“Wait, um, we haven’t even finished asking you all the questions.” Peeta said in a disappointed tone, while reaching out a hand to gesture for me to sit down again.
“I don’t want to waste any more of you guy’s time. It's obvious you’re looking for a male roommate and I need to regroup and look for a different place as well.” I told him with a sad smile, waving off his politeness.
“We never expressly agreed we were looking for a guy roommate.” Peeta said in a cautious tone while looking at his other two roommates.
They both gave him a surprised look and I let out a little laugh.
“Don’t worry about it. My feelings won’t get hurt. I’m not gonna report you guys for gender discrimnation or anything. It’s fine.” I told them and started heading towards the door.
“Wait! Wait! Just uh- give us one second ok?” Peeta calls out after me right when I get to the door. I turn around puzzled but by them all the guys are filing off into the hallway and disappearing into a room.
