“i wouldn’t trust two’s trainer to teach you properly. both of his didn’t even make it to the top five last games.” she’d noticed, that the somewhat familiar district two tribute ( he’d been in the games only a year before percy ) had seemingly stuck with maverick. percy could only consider this a flaw and somewhat of an insult -- no, percy wasn’t a trainer, but she could damn well train someone despite that, and she was almost offended no one had asked her for her help yet.

she was so desperate for attention, in fact, that she’d picked her knives back up. she stood with her back to the target, throwing knives in hand. she’d taught antigone before, hadn’t she ?? she could teach anyone. “c’mon, i’ll show you how this works.”

What a special day. Who had the opportunity to look their murderer in the eye after the fact? Marino spared him some kindness knowing Everett had died just the same. Through all of their effort, neither one made it to see the people waiting for them. It was almost worse for Everett considering that he came from a Career district. Not a Career, but killing was killing was killing. Maybe the Gamemakers saved Panem the trouble by getting rid of a would-be Peacekeeper. One life for the dozens Everett would have taken. It was an ugly thought, but he had a lot of thinking to catch up on.

The moment passed when he spotted Everett in the dining area. It reminded him of when the two first spoke during the 122nd Games. They weren’t those same tributes anymore, were they? Marino had a lifetime of resentment buried for safekeeping just for Everett. It was the least he could do. “Funny seeing you here, pal. I figured they only brought back people worth keeping around,” Marino said as he approached.

here orpheus was, actually following through on something he said he’d do ( what a stupid idea that was ). knives in his hand, the familiarity of the weight was both a comfort and frightening. it’d been years since he’d held knives like this - the last time, he was gutting actual children. but that had been the only thing he’d ever been good at, the only thing he’d ever been praised for, and the knives were old friends then, an extension of his body. there was this duality residing within him, conflict rising from the pit of his stomach. he tried to shake his discomfort out of his mind - bit down on his lip as he looked up at everett ( as if he’d only just realised he was there ).

053. What is your character’s greatest strength?

She’s resourceful. To her every problem has a solution and every box has a key. Most of this was built into her throughout an unusual childhood. Stealing is a lot less fun when you have to explain yourself to the authorities. Throughout her life she’s had to think on her feet and prepare for problems before they happen. She enjoys the thrill of this, for sure, but doesn’t know if the gift was worth the lesson.

Not even a little. Power and authority comes with responsibilities, with people looking to you for answers. No thank you.
