This story may be fiction but it's inspired by truth, inspired by stories that have been passed from generation to generation. A story that rewrites the lies that have been told. A story that doesn't paint white Australia as the saviours. A story that respects their ancestors while acknowledging the pain suffered by white Australian law makers. Let me start off by saying that I feel like I'm the wrong target demographic for this movie. I went in with the assumption that this would be a "life is short, reach outside the mundane. Even as you hit old age." Unfortunately what I got was a story that centres around a man with a terminal illness and changing his mind to at least give something to remember him by. This film was adapted from a Japanese story set in the 1950s, yet I feel like there is something missing in this story. It shows of montages and very little what a storyline within the 1950s of England. Yesterday I was scrolling through instagram and saw a peek of Champions, the poster was up at my local event cinemas but I didn't pay no mind to it. Until I saw a advance screening session for it and went "why not?" . Champions is a true story based on a an assistant coach who refuses to play ball whose forced to do community service at a local basketball team, the basketball team is full of people with disabilities. He goes through the journey of righting his wrongs with a group of unlikely stars. Champions is such a beautiful story, a story of how underdogs find their own form of champions. They realise that they don't need to be gold medal specialist instead a band of friends who just well and truly want to find something their good at as their enjoyment. Just like the first one, Fisherman's Friends returns with their sequel filled with heartfelt songs and encouragement of seeking guidance. Just like the first one, I found this quite beautiful and I believe the first movie was the rise of sea shanties on tiktok. Fisherman's Friends; One and All symbolises the journey these ten men go on and sharing the uprise,downfall and everything between. Which not only includes the songs that their known for but also the men coming to terms with grief and discovering love again.
