A Preview of Eurydice with Jeffery Pufahl
"First of all, I’m interested in this play being a modern-day interpretation of the Orpheus myth. Could you tell us about that?"
"Well, the original myth that’s been told throughout the centuries and made into numerous operas has been sort of the basis, as sort of the skeleton for this play...
Eurydice dies on her wedding day, like she does in the myth, and then she enters the underworld, also like she does in the myth, but where the play begins to veer away is that in the underworld she encounters her father, who she lost at a young age, and she begins to re-learn language and life and reconnects with her father. From there the play takes quite an interesting turn from the myth, with the expectation that Eurydice remains in the underworld at the end, but why she does is a question that this play asks."
