          it’s  rare  to  find  a  moment  of  morning  bliss  in  a  house  filled  with  early  risers.   an  hour  from  now,   when  the  sun  crept  over  the  horizon,   stereos  would  flicker  on  in  unison  as  a  mad  dash  for  the  hottest  shower  ensued.   ambrose  favored  the  role  of  amused  spectator,   grinning  sleepily  into  a  coffee  cup  as  his  brothers  and  sisters  danced  around  the  common  area,   twirling  on  socked  feet  and  singing  into  hairbrush  microphones   ---   but  for  now,   the  room  was  pin - drop  silent,   only  the  muted  tap  of  fingertips  against  keys  filling  the  empty  space.   despite  the  sound - proof  walls  that  allowed  for  all - hours  composing,   ambrose  felt  weird  putting  the  grand  piano  through  its  paces  while  the  rest  of  the  house  was  asleep.   besides,   he  knew  the  instrument  well  enough  to  hear  the  notes  without  sound.   from  his  perch  on  the  piano  bench,   the  sound  of  shuffling  feet  catches  him  off  guard  and  his  eyes  snap  open,   whipping  around  with  a  vague  sense  of  unease.   ❝   gods,   alex !   how  long  have  you  been  standing  there ?   ❞   never  before  has  there  been  a  more  apt  display  of  hand  in  the  cookie  jar.   ❝   don’t  tell  me  you’re  just  getting  in  for  the  night.   ❞
