          next  on  his  mind  :  ask  at  the  makeshift  information  desk  in  the  lobby  for  sage’s  room  number  to  check  that  the  idiot’s  still  alive,  fuelled  by  bemusement  that  —  out  of  everything  to  leave  behind  on  campus  —  his  friend  left  his  phone.   samson’s  own  mobile  rings  as  he’s  walking  downstairs,  and  he’s  in  animated  conversation  when  he  rounds  the  corner  to  building’s  entrance-hall  to  see  the  object  of  his  search  already  there,  shoulders  loosening  subtly  at  the  sight.

          ❛             mom,  can  you  give  me  one  second  ?   i’ll  call  you  back,  i  love  you.   ❜   certain  he  hasn’t  been  spotted  yet,  there’s  a  strong  sense  of  vindictiveness   (  a  trait  not  usually  associated  with  the  son  of  apollo  )  to  movements  as  he  silently  crosses  the  room,  light  on  his  feet  until  he’s  close  enough  to  wrap  the  elder  up  in  an  almost  too-tight  hug  from  behind  with  all  his  body  weight,  breaking  the  quiet  with  a  purposefully  loud  ‘  SAGE  !  ’  by  his  ear  at  the  same  time.

       SHE  DOESN’T  ANTICIPATE  SEEING  HIM  AGAIN,  earbuds  secured  in  her  ears  as  she  stands  in  line  at  the  coffee  shop.  nails  leaving  red  trails  of  boredom  against  her  arm,  eyes  shifting  along  the  menu  as  she  tries  to  decide  on  what  to  drink.  the  idea  of  a  choice  always  leaves  her  overwhelmed.  he  steps  back  & &  almost  runs  into  her,  a  remark  falling  halfway  through  pink  lips  until  she  recognizes  the  smell.  “  oh,  uh  ―  SORRY,  ”  it’s  the  only  thing  that  she  can  think  of,  feet  unwillingly  frozen  to  the  concrete  floor.  what  is  she  sorry for? ?  she  doesn’t  even  know,  just  that  she  is  sorry.     @eusage​     

          despite numerous claims to the contrary, hande doesn’t consider herself a SORE LOSER because she just doesn’t lose, let alone to a bumbling son of hecate who she’s had the repeated misfortunate of sparring against in class. sage’s combat instincts are so pathetic and predictable that the satisfaction of victory wore off after the first dozen times she won, but somehow he had managed the impossible, somehow developed the proficiency to defeat a daughter of ares overnight, and the stench of foul play practically reeks off of him — and he knows it, too. he tries to avoid hande as he scurries out of the RA meeting, standard procedure on his end for the most part, but she’s been seething for too long to let him go peacefully, immediately trailing after sage like a predator stalking their prey. “ hey, ” she calls out, her voice forceful as she finally catches up to him, abruptly cutting in front of his tracks to keep him from escaping, “ i want a rematch. i know your sleazy warlock ass fucking cheated. ”

          setting  the  pen  down  he  stands,  head  bowed,  braced  against  the  edge  of  the  table  until  he  feels  his  heartbeat  even  out,  fear  fading  as  the  silence  stretches  onward  and  the  remnants  of  his  nightmare  feel  less  tangible.   pulling  on  a  nearby  hoodie,  teeth  catch  bottom  lip  as  he  picks  up  his  phone  to  send  a  quick  text,  harsh  brightness  of  the  display  as  it  lights  up  making  him  wince  momentarily.

          display  reads  3:47AM  —  due  to  sage’s  nighttime  habits  samson  is  sure  his  friend  will  be,  their  schedules  seemingly  opposite  unless  he’s  asked  to  work  a  closing  shift  at  polaris.   the  wait  for  a  reply  is  an  agonising  one  ;  all  he  can  do  is  pray  sage  has  his  phone  nearby,  and  try  to  ignore  the  anxiety  that  has  settled,  leaden,  in  the  pit  of  his  stomach.

          [   SENT  //  YER  A  WIZARD  SAGE  :  hey  man,  you  up  yet   ?   ]           [   SENT  //  YER  A  WIZARD  SAGE  :  i’ve  got  something  for  you   ]

          smiles  fleetingly  to  a  passer-by  as  steps  are  taken  up  to  the  blacked-out  windows  of  the  hecate  housing  and  knuckles  rap  sharply  upon  doorway  ;  barely  three  seconds  pass  before  he’s  pushing  the  door  open,  calling  to  best  friend  as  he  steps  over  familiar  threshold,   ❛   wakey  wakey  sage              ❜   a  brief  thought  of  angus  crosses  his  mind  as  he  does  so,  but  he  reasons  that   —   if  the  other  wasn’t  up  yet  either   —   there  would  be  enough  leftovers  for  three,   ❛   got  you  breakfast   !   ❜
