the music isn't as loud as eunwoo expected it to be, but maybe it was because her and yerim had hidden away in the far corner away from the speakers and the dance party. at least that was what eunwoo last saw before they moved out of people's way. she used to be a huge party goer, but as the years progressed the less time she actually had to go to events, plus they were really filled with freshers and she doesn't think she can handle that anymore. they have too much energy and she personally, had very little to spare. from the sleepless nights and the constant neck and shoulder ache, the finger cramps from the violin.. yeah eunwoo had her own issues that she is sure alcohol and loud music wouldn't help, as much as she would love to participate.

but tonight was different, she had managed to get some company with her in yerim. she's always liked yerim, quiet and steady presense, and even if they had their,... shortcomings, eunwoo managed to find her way back to her. complicated to say the least, but neither ever addressed the elephant in the room and she really hopes to keep it that way. she takes another sip from her beer, already starting to warm up in her hand, the glass lacking the much needed condensation, but it was a boiling july night and it made sense.

it was genuenly supposed to be their usual get together, they were still in school and it wasn't out of the ordindary to spend the majority of their time around one another, the usual. it's a normal day, its supposed to be like any other day, it really didn't feel like it would be any different. hence why they were hiding away in the music room like usual, eunwoo's violin placed half hazzardly on the desk and joon is in his usual seat at the piano. absolutely nothing out of the ordinary was expected, except the notifications about university acceptance starting coming through. she heard people screaming and crying, chatter was filling the school.

so she goes to look, to see what her email says.

eunwoo has been looking at her email for a few minutes now, at least she thinks its been a few minutes, but she can joon burning holes at the side of her head, so it must be longer than that by now. she can't really look up from the screen.

we are unable to offer you a place on this course through the scholarship program.

what a joke, she thinks and finally locks the phone, notices her hands shake but does her best to ignore it. she all but throws the phone on the table, maybe the shakes will go away, but she can't ignore the feeling of being unable to look at joon. so she avoids looking in his general direction, only seeing him from the corner of her eye as she turns to pick up the violin, to keep herself distracted for a little while but she can't even bring herself to grab the instrument.

fuck..

all those years of hard work, of sleepless nights, to keep on top of her current scholarship, to her grades, to be constantly in joon's shadow, a step behind, an arms length away. now, the gap has suddenly become so large, it was taking ever ounce of self restrain for eunwoo to not have a breakdown.

eunwoo doesn't think she has left her room in at least three days... maybe less actually, or more, she can't tell because she hates the heat and melts under the small desk fan she had gotten last time she was in town. she had nothing better going on for her, her roommate had left for home, she had no assignments to worry about, and the lack of sleep had caught right up to her. so a break was well needed and deserved in her eyes. she is reading a book, half asleep, half awake, not quiet sure what was happening for the past 10 pages at least, but time goes by and she is relaxing. maybe she will doze off soon for her n-th nap of the day, week even, and wake up before it was pitch black outside. 

she is almost there, book forgotten on her chest and eyes closed, and she gets woken up by banging on her door. she does jump out of her skin, but doesn't jump out of bed because what the actual fuck was the urgency... at least it felt like that. she does eventually push herself up, hands rubbing the sleep off her face as she takes the quick few steps it takes her to get to the door. even then she debates actually opening it, because she can't think of that many people that would 1. be on campus and 2. want to see her. yet, before she can think of something else that would make her want to go back to bed, she swings the door open, greeting whoever that was in her rundown baggy t-shirt and basketball shorts as pjs.

eunwoo has a bad, or good, habit of wanting to learn more instruments. yes, she has put years, blood, sweat and tears into the violin and has a good few years of piano under her belt, but that hasn't stopped her from branching out. a bit of harp here with the help of someone, a bit of drums from that girl in the year above, she even gave the flute a try but couldn't wrap her head around the breathing. she has given whatever they had in the music department a go.

however, guitar.. that's been a fun one and that's how she landed on bothering yohan on a regular basis to help her out with riffs and other stuff. she's a quick learner, sometimes they meet for mere minutes in between lessons, a quick thing to get over and done with and sometimes they stick together in one of the practice rooms for hours on end.

today was one of the longer days, not because eunwoo was struggling or anything like that. she'd gotten the hang of the song and the way her fingers were supposed to stick to the strings almost with ease, but she had nothing better to do after that and has asked yohan if he just wanted to stay around and chat for a bit while she repeated the same melody until it became a mindless task and she could look up from the strings and her fingers.

she's staring at the cards on the table that she pulled. and now, eunwoo isn't supersticious, but she definitely sees a very well laid out picture on the table. she's never been one read to believe in the supernatural or.. whatever you would call this, but someone had told eunwoo it would be funny and that is exactly how she ended up at a random patch of grass with yua..

now tell her, why was the fool, the devil, the lovers and the tower staring right at her. she thinks this is a recipe for disaster to say the least but its only a gut feelinga and some pretty pictures speaking nonsense. yet she keeps her words to herself as she waits for yua to tell her something, anything really, but the silence stretches and eunwoo is itching with this uncomfortable feeling under her skin that she has to shift in her seat, pulling her knees up to her chest. she's watching the other closely, brow raised in anticipation, but there is the continous silence following so she breaks it.

"so… how much can you tell me that i can't decypher from this." she asks, waves vaguely at the cards, before her fingers find a strand of hair and start twisting it, slowly and steadily.

they are not exactly lost, at least that's what eunwoo would like to think, but there aren't exactly that many people she can even hear at this point to be considered at a safe place. yet, she isn't exactly bothered by it. lucas is great company, he has proved it many a times and she has reached out to him on numerous occasions. it only seemed that their sensors for each other were getting just that good, because she is still impressed he managed to find her while she was mildly moping around near the lake. she was there because.

1. she wanted some peace and quiet 2. it was one of the few open spaces where she could watch the stars

it just so happened that she was moping around, quiet and dark, just enough to keep her away from any crowds, yet, lucas somehow finds her. 

"you put a tracker on me or what?" were her first words as soon as she clocked it was lucas that had found his way to her. but anyway, that was how they ended up keeping each other company.

eunwoo has caught sight of joon a few times over the past day and a half, but it was never more than a quick exchange of looks. she really can't complain about it. maybe it was all the new people she interacted with, or the amount of sunlight she was getting, maybe even the fresh air or all of the above. she didn't have enough timeto think about him. she's been having a great time and being able to get away from her room has certainly helped her a decent amount. she's busy with activities and making the most out of it, after all, they were going back tomorrow.

a good chunk of her afternoon was spent around the lake, mainly with agatha on the paddleboard, until they both ended up tumbling into the water. it was fun, the realisation of the cold plunge and the scrambling to get back onto the board in between laughter and failure. she wasn't in a rush to get herself presentable, despite the change into some dry clothes, her hair is still wet and sticking to her face, it will dry, she wasn't in a hurry. she should probably head back to her room, see if anyone has a hairdryer she can borrow, but the sun was still up and maybe taking a detour wouldn't be such a bad idea? just to see what people were doing. a bit of people watching never hurt anyone, and there was still time before she had to head back and help in the kitchen.

eunwoo is on her way to the one of the volleyball courts, that had a nice little hill on the side of it where she planned on sitting till her hair dried, but of course that wasn't going to work out. not even halfway through the site, she clocks joon from afar. she feels the fight or flight switch flip, in between, indecisive really. she knows he's seen her, he is walking directly to her and it's not like she had much of a place to hide. going off the track and into the bushes seemed like a waste of time to even consider properly, so in the end she slows her steps down until she's stopped and waits for him, teeth sinking in her bottom lip. they haven't.. really spoken since the festival, even when joon had dropped by to… say something about it, he was in a rush and eunwoo just accepted it for what it was.

i was a dick

a simple statement she agreed with and they left it at that. he was in a hurry afterall. it wasn't an apology. it didn't change anything. they were still awkward.

eunwoo didn't think sitting on a paddle board moved by someone else would as relaxing as it was. truly and experience she is grateful to agatha, for suggesting it. she is doing her very best to move as little as possible, because she is worried that one swift move and they will both end in the water and personally, she isn't ready for a cold plunge despit having dipped her feet in earlier. the weather is nice, still warm for the start of september and she can't help but sigh, head falling back as she enjoyed the sun on her skin.

"you doing okay back there?" she asks agatha, because despite hearing the paddle colide with the water and the paddleboard move gently through the lake, she hasn't dared to look behind her much. again, worried one wrong move and they would both be down "i don't mind switching if you want, but we need to get closer to the edge to swap." it's a suggestion, mainly out of kindness because eunwoo was really enjoying this too much. its quiet, despite the other paddleboats and rafts around them, and the occasional people that would jump in the water from the small wooden dock.
