Now, he's out here slaying us all at 40.. unleashing his full power with goddamn good songs along with the people that he wanted to SHINE with since DAY 1.

Rapper. Singer. Entertainer. Composer. Producer. Precious son. Beloved brother. Adorable Choding. These are the different roles of Eun Jiwon. First recognized as the quiet and enigmatic leader of idol group Sechs Kies, Jiwon later became a solo recording artist known for his hit songs Drunken in Melody, All Famy and Adios. Nowadays Jiwon is adored by millions of fans as Eun Choding of 1N2D. Jiwon, who’s turning 31 (32 Korean age), expressed in a recent TV interview that he cherishes his Choding-ness because this makes him more approachable to his fans but he wants them to know there is more to him than this Elementary Kid they see on TV.

In 1N2D, we see a mischievous and carefree Jiwon. His nickname Choding fits him quite well because Jiwon is much like a child who is fearless in saying the most darnedest of things. He comes up with bizarre ideas and does not hesitate to voice these thoughts out, sometimes making others doubt his IQ of 160. He is quick at coming up with witty and sly remarks that is just right on the mark and make you fall down laughing. His boyish looks maybe attributed to the fact that he is a young kid at heart who enjoys playing around with his brothers and who heartily laughs out loud at their jokes and silly antics. Watching Jiwon with the other members of 1N2D gives us a deep sense of brotherhood founded on their love and respect for each other. Jiwon’s fondness for the other members shows in how endearingly he hugs or leans towards them during filming or how comfortably he dishes out his thoughts of them no matter how crazy it is. He in turn is also doted and spoiled with their affections. He may sometimes appear to be indifferent, selfish and whiny but on a closer look Jiwon is someone who loves the show, treasures the friendship he has with his brothers and cares deeply for them.

Beneath the choding character is a person earnest about life, an artist serious about his craft. Jiwon reveals that although 1N2D has affected his singing voice, he still chooses to do the show because it gives him the opportunity to meet different people. Being an entertainer, has made Jiwon interact easily with everyone. Unlike in the past where he remained shy and quiet, now he is front and center in delighting people of all ages. Through those people and his experiences with them, he gains valuable insights about life. The change in him affected how he makes music as he chooses to produce songs he identifies with and fits his style rather than make pop songs. Although not everyone appreciates his type of music, he is content and happy to just make music with his friends that they can enjoy along with his fans. And whenever Jiwon performs his brand of music, it is amazing how different he is on stage. It’s like a totally different person is on stage, claiming and owning that moment, filling it with his presence as he oozes with sex appeal, charm, confidence and some extra oomph!

Jiwon has been busy working for many years so much so that his sleeping habit of turning 360° degrees stems from having slept in cars between schedules. But even though he has worked hard in his Sechs Kies days, he still thinks he could have done better. He wishes to go back to those days so he can come up with better songs, present greater performances, and do a better job at leading the group. He says he also wants to savor and enjoy every moment of that experience. The statement reveals a lot on how Jiwon lives his life today, someone who lives his life to the fullest, who cherishes every moment and opportunity given him. And maybe that’s the reason why when he came to know that his first love was back in Korea, he quickly grabbed the opportunity to be with her once again. Even declaring his love for her on national television and confessing she has always been in his heart, simultaneously crushing and melting the hearts of thousands of girls who adore him.

Affectionate. Thoughtful. Supportive. Bullying MC Mong is one of Jiwon’s recurrent routine on the show, but the affectionate hugs and declaration of love by JiMong showcases the genuine bond and fondness between the two.

By all means he is no perfect guy. He has flaws like the rest of us such as his addiction to gaming, some questionable fashion statements, the shrillest scream among 1N2D members, and poor athletic skills. But he more than makes up for it in a number of ways. First is his genuine warmth and concern for his fans. Recently he received gifts and letters from the high school students who were with him at the viewers’ trip, his fondness for them showed as he recalls all the names of the students while gently handling and reading their letters and later warmly cheering them on their coming college exams. Another is his sweet, caring and playful nature towards dogs. He is always the first one to ask where Sanggeun is and is really disappointed when Sanggeun gets left behind. It is not only Sanggeun who gets Jiwon’s loving attention, but puppies that he encounters on their trips as well, how cute was he when he cuddled with those puppies from Jejudo.

Affectionate. Thoughtful. Supportive. In the early days of 1N2D, in order to help Lee Sugeun gain his footing on the show and confidence in his comedic skills, Jiwon would create opportunities for his hyung to shine by giving hearty reactions and laughs at his gags.

Eun Jiwon has traveled a long way from his pop idol days to where he is now. For someone who grew up in luxurious comfort, he didn’t just depend on his family’s fortunes but created his own path of success. It is admirable how he faced criticisms about his music and bounced back from the setbacks he was dealt with, showing everyone what he is capable of. Jiwon is able to combine his innocent charm, candor, shrewdness and humor in a mix that appeals to the young & old in his choding persona. He builds the connection with the viewers and his fans through Choding which makes him approachable and lovable. But he still surprises his fans by showing a different side to him in his TV shows and through his music. He always aims to be better at everything he does. So it is with much anticipation that we wait for him to reveal another side of him for us to love and go gaga about. There is indeed a lot more to Eun Jiwon than just the Kid.
