"It must have been… lonely to be Mikado."

She knew that she shouldn’t say much about what she meant. Even if Mikado was dead it was bad for his memory to release information that he in life kept only for those that he trusted.

"It must be lonely to be the only person of your kind. Can anyone really say that they knew another person like Mikado? Can any of you point out another person in this city as willing to give up pieces of himself for his friends and the people that he cared about, and at the same time rarely take anything for himself?

"I thought he was too shy. I didn’t like how modest he was. I think that people deserve to be given credit where they are do, and I think society should be ashamed of itself for convincing people that they’re not allowed to revel a little in the credit they are given.

"When did it become a rule that people weren’t allowed to be proud of their good deeds?

"It’s a pity that Mikado had to die for all of this to be said about him. It’s a pity that he never got the chance to be just a little arrogant and stand up for himself and the good things that he did. 

"I wish society was able to learn something from this but in reality even this moment will fade away, and no more than a handful of people will ever remember Mikado, or what was said about him. 

Eulogy for Shinra

Public Eulogy:

"People like Kishitani-san don’t get as much respect as they should. People with a black and white view of the world will look at him and what he did and think of him as ‘bad.’ People who aren’t afraid to see a little gray might look at him and what he did and realize how incredible he was.

"It’s not easy to practice the things that he practiced in a society that doesn’t respect a darker ideal; in a society that has forgotten that to move a little further sometimes you have to do things that are scary, that are outside of the realm of what someone might consider ‘safe.’

"He did it anyways, and I think he did it well. He wasn’t afraid to use his skilled hands in ways that some people might look at with a hateful eye. He did everything that he did in search of some deeper, not readily apparent meaning — he wanted to find answers to the questions that most people don’t even want to dream about.

"I guess it really is all about dreams. I hope that, wherever he is now, there aren’t so many laws — and that he found answers to all of his questions."

Private Eulogy (Erika Alone):

"I don’t know if I loved you. I really don’t know.

"I know that you gave me moments where I felt love. I know that you gave me moments that allowed me to close my eyes and picture someone that I did love. You let me use you to find happiness in a person that will never really give me happiness.

"But it was the same for you, wasn’t it? Because as badly as I pine for and dearly love Kyohei, you pined for and dearly loved Celty. I know I don’t look like her any more than you look like Kyohei, but I hope that for every moment of happiness and pleasure you gave me, I was able to give some back to you.

'Is that really it, though? Because you're not Kyohei, and I knew that you weren't him every time I opened my eyes and saw your face. But it wasn't a bad face to see. I think if there was someone who I would want to be my Kyohei, it would be you.

"That’s not fair, though, because you’re not Kyohei. You’re Shinra… but it felt just as good to be with you. You shouldn’t have to be used as a replacement for anyone — but then why did you bring me so much pleasure?

Eulogy for Walker

"The only kind of happiness that Yumacchi ever sought was in his own head. In a person’s imagination they deserve to be free, they deserve to be able to think and feel what they like to without other people condemning and abandoning them for it. If we can’t be free with ourselves then with whom are we mean to be free? 

"Or is someone out there subtly trying to tell us that we are not meant to be free?

"Yumacchi wouldn’t like that. He wouldn’t like it if someone tried to push the rest of us down and deny us all our right to be what we wanted to be, even if no one else ever knew what that was.

"I know, because I believe in those things too. We believed in them together because we loved each other. Love doesn’t stop just because a person dies, I still love him.

"I’m going to keep loving him, because in my imagination he’s still here. No… he’s still here in reality, too. And I’m going to keep him here because someone dared to deny him the right to continue being here on his own.

"… I’m trying not to look or sound too sad. Maybe it’s not fair to get sad. Maybe it’s not fair of us to exhibit those emotions that he himself never seemed to let on. 

"There are lots of kinds of people in this world. There are people who always let you know how they feel and there are other people who, whether or not they mean to, keep quiet and make you guess what they might be thinking.

"Now that we’re here, I’m wondering if there was something that he wanted to say that he just never had a chance to. He said so much through his roles in movies, maybe he was using his characters as a vessel to try to let something out that he as a person wasn’t capable of…

"I guess it’s no use wondering. We all know what kind of a person he was, and at the same time none of us really know. Or maybe one of us does, but the rest of us might never know. And I’m okay with that. 

"I’m okay with knowing what I do know about him, because the pieces of him that he shared with me were… sweet. I could have given more back to him than I did, I guess I could have tried not to take as much from him as I did. The fact that he was friends with me until the end, despite what kind of a person I am and despite the things that I did, should speak a lot for who he was behind his stoic face.
