Eugene Butler
Eugene Butler was an American serial killer who murdered 6 teenage boys at his home in North Dakota, the USA between 1900-1906.
Butler was born in 1840 and came from a rich family. As an adult, he was said to be reclusive and to avoid contact with people. He began showing signs of mental illness such as hallucinations and was admitted to North Dakota State Hospital in 1906. In October 1913, Butler died while in the asylum.
After Butler's death, his estate was given to his living relatives. In 1915, workmen went to excavate his property. One of these workmen was digging under a cellar when he discovered skeletons, all of which had their skulls crushed and two of which had their legs broken. Locals were confused as nobody could recall anyone being reported missing or disappearing during the time period in question.
Police later revealed the skeletons all to be young men between 15 and 18, none of the individuals could be identified and it was suggested they had been vagrants employed to work on the farm by Butler.
The remains were stolen from the sheriff's office. To this day, Butler's victims remain unidentified although modern DNA techniques could make identity possible if the skeletons could be retrieved.
