In the Basque Country, flags - either the Basque Ikurriña or the Palestinian banner - are a frequent sight from balconies and windows. Etxera ⇔it’s a slogan of political solidarity linked to the Basque prisoners’ rights movement. It literally means “homeward” or “to home” in Basque. In this political context, it’s shorthand for “Euskal Presoak Etxera” - “Basque prisoners home”.
It’s part of a long-running campaign demanding that Basque prisoners (mostly ETA-related) be brought back to prisons closer to their families in the Basque Country, instead of being dispersed across Spain and France. The two arrows symbol represents that idea of return or transfer - movement back home. #my photos
