flat-nosed & white-washed (a personal rant)
I wish I never let all those certain white people in my life get away with calling me "white-washed" and laughing at my flat nose.
Yes, both my parents are Filipino, and I grew up here. I know.
Bitch, I'd hate to break it to you, but only fellow browns are allowed to laugh at The Nose and point out the colonization of my mind, because it's something you've never dealt with. It's something me and my children will have to deal with, from now until eternity unless we choose to marry white in order to accomodate these bullshit beauty standards to lessen the anxieties we have.
Yes you may get teased for being blonde or a redhead, but at least casting and modeling agencies will always favor you over me, and it will be your face all over those ads telling people of all races what we should all look like. That's something me and my next of kin will never have. I'm not saying you should be spiteful of that - keep working what you have! I'm just saying this is something you should be aware of.
I mean, I'm fine now. It took me fifteen years to realize I am fucking gorgeous, because the only ugly things in this world are the institutions aiming to keep people down, just because of how we're born. I'm only sad that there are still girls out there going through the same stages of insecurities, and I only pray they soon gain enough personal strength to realize it's what's on the inside that counts.
