Well, Kitchen's Floor has stood the test of time. They were sturdy enough to withstand Hurricane Sandy, and they remain sturdy enough to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their "Look Forward to Nothing" album by re-releasing it on the similarly sturdy cassette format. Originally issued by the great Siltbreeze label, this is a ramshackle electrified swirling affair with a pulse that just goes for it and leaves you wondering what the hell just hit ya. A total head-bobber and still somehow a downer. When this record was still fresh, another fellow from Brisbane reported to me that he enjoys listening to Kitchen's Floor only when he is at his most despondent, claiming that the band has a total bummer sound. That sentiment still strikes me as an overstatement, if not a complete misinterpretation. But if artificial sweetener is what you crave in your pop-inflected guitar rock, you ain't gonna taste it here.
