so there’s no way for the specific causes of mental suffering under capitalism & the pathologisation of inability to work / the biologisation of symptoms under capitalist psychiatry to be “solved” without getting rid of capitalism (or else w/o the occurence of a major shift in capitalism that would likely leave something just as bad in its wake). what it would take to overthrow capitalism is obviously a huge question w/ many answers (some of which I’ve talked about before) & is beyond the scope of this ask, but there are nevertheless ways to help mentally ill people / people who are parsed as mentally ill here and now. off the top of my head:

opposing ideology that supports biological models of mental illness

donating to / volunteering at local abuse shelters (since disabled people have a dramatically increased risk of being abused)

donating to mentally ill people w/ online donation campaigns who are trying to make ends meet / people who are trying to escape abusive situations

bringing up issues of ableism & disability within other groups & movements

setting up local services & volunteer efforts to help mentally ill & physically disabled people to get groceries, prescriptions, & whatever else they need (that whole “mutual aid” thing that I keep going on about)

supporting mentally ill people (and others!) in your very own life, making time to cultivate spaces that serve the possibility of love and emotional connection in the midst of capitalist isolation & alienation
