another day post-cobra kai watching, another feeling about the difference between film (enduring, iconic imagery and mythology) and tv (longer form analysis of people) and the way picking up this story 34 years later assists in the deconstruction of black-and-white character-writing, depictions of generational trauma and abuse, and creating narratives of healing

#cobra kai #johnny lawrence #daniel larusso #robby keene #miguel diaz #sam larusso #eli moskowitz #tory nichols #etcetc.#look I am 99% talking about johnny and daniel (mainly the former but with some more latter coming up once I've watched KK3)#because I have strong feelings about themes around getting older and nostalgia and deconstructed mythologies+my own queer reads #but the kids are so great and this narrative wouldn't work if it weren't fundamentally about how they're dealing with their lives #and the circular nature of trauma accidentally being put on them but them having a better language and support for healing #so yeah a couple of them are in dark places right now but the narrative is promising healing #probably things will get worse for a little bit for robby and tory but they'll also get better #and it'll take a hell of a lot less time than 34 years (hopefully!!!)
