Hi~ hope you're having a nice day!! 💐 there's a thing I don't understand, what does makes a placement weak or idk how to explain it, for example I heard that Pisces Mercury or Taurus in Mars are weaker placements, why? Even the house has something to do here? Like makes it more weak or maybe neutral in relation to other placements?? THNKS
i am, so far <3 thank you dear~
imagine the planets as rulers, or governors, like Kings and Queens. each planet, naturally, has a kingdom of their own. this kindgom is where they rule best, because, in this case, one’s own kingdom is but a reflection of one’s own personality and traits and interests. these kingdoms are the astrological signs.
take Mars as a king, for example. he has two kingdoms: Aries and Scorpio. he rules freely in these places. he’s comfortable there. he knows how things work. in Aries, Mars is free to be courageous and brave, to fight for his own interests at all times, to be independent and spontaneous. in Scorpio, Mars directs his intensity towards his emotional battles and passions. he is free to investigate, fight life or death battles, and explore the secret realm of his own feelings.
this is the concept of Essential Dignities. the idea that each planet rules a sign, and that each planet, when placed in the sign that it rules, becomes stronger.
what happens when a King or a Queen is placed in a foreign kingdom however? they won’t feel comfortable dealing with that kingdoms structure at all. they will do it, surely, but to govern such a different kingdom they’ll have to deal with things they’re not so familiar with.
understanding Mars as a king, again. Mars is passionate, brave, assertive. in other kingdoms, the fiery energy of his strength flows very naturally. but Taurus is a beautiful, soft place. it’s a peaceful kingdom. there’s not a lot of battles to be won in Taurus. so this is where Mars is weak, because he cannot express his traits very naturally. this a classic example of unstoppable force meets an immovable object.
this is the concept of Debilities. the concept that a planet’s expression can become weak depending on the sign it’s in. basically:
there are two types of Dignity:
Domicile: if a planet is placed in the sign that it rules; the strongest type of dignity. example: Mars in Aries.
Exaltation: if a planet is placed in a friendly sign. example: Moon in Taurus.
and then Debilities:
Exile: a planet is placed in the sign that is opposite the sign it rules. example: Mars in Libra.
Fall: a planet is placed in the sign that is opposite the sign in which it is exalted. example: Moon in Scorpio.
the house has an impact on where, in life, these planets will be manifesting, which can add to or alter the interpretation to that planet’s functioning in a certain sign, but not so dramatically as the impact signs have on how planetary energy moves!
sorry for the wall of text gaishdg but i hope this is helpful <3 also there are a lot of tables depicting these dignities and debilities, so i encourage you to google that in case you’re interested. they may look complicated at first but it all becomes very natural once you get how it works.
you’re welcome~ take care!
