Lady Ysabel Escárcega made the journey to Tartosa all the way from the western reaches of the known world, just to attend the famous festival of Carnevale, a tradition the Escárcega family had upheld for decades. Lady Ysabel probably would not be surprised by the letter slid under her door, and she would no doubt recognize the penmanship and stationery, and know exactly how to respond.
There's just one problem.
This isn't the real Lady Ysabel.
The real Lady Ysabel died of Plumbob Plague on the journey eastward, and her trusty maidservant Clara made the spontaneous decision to take her Lady's place. The plan had gone off without a hitch, and Clara was starting to settle in to her new life of luxury, until this mysterious letter slid under the door. It was addressed to her deceased mistress, with apparent familiarity. Now, Clara must try to sleuth out who the original Lady Ysabel really was, as well as keep her head above water in a world that seems altogether more dangerous than it did a few days before.
