Day Sixteen
Esme Benoit aka. Sophie Devereaux’s older sister attempts to run a con on Saint Marie, steals the DI’s wallet and causes mass chaos as everybody wonders why local businesswoman, Catherine Bordey, has taken to a life of crime
“You owe my mother an apology.” Camille Bordey states as she glares at her boss.
“Why should I apologize to her when she took my wallet,” Richard huffs incredulously as he looks between his DS and the object of their conversation, who is also glaring at him.
“You are impossible! Maman is not a petty criminal!”
“Well, I never said petty. It was actually quite…” Richard stops short as he realizes that the glare of the elder Bordey is deepening. Apparently she does not find the claim that her alleged crimes aren’t petty to be a compliment.
As if to further illustrate her distate, Catherine states, “I may not always enjoy being around you, but I would never steal your wallet, or anyone else’s for that matter. I am a respected member of the Honore community.”
Richard is about to form some rebuttal when he is stopped by the voice of Officer Dwayne Myers from outside the station. “Catherine, I don’t think I have to tell you how disappointed Fidel and I are with this behavior, and poor Camille is gonna be heartbroken upon learnin’ her mother has been fleecing the poor innocent tourists.”
The trio inside the station exchange looks of confusion as Dwayne and Fidel come into view escorting a handcuffed woman who happens to be an almost clone like doppelganger for Catherine. Only the distinctly different clothing signals that the two women are not the same.
The two women make brief shocked eye contact as the entire room goes silent before Camille states, “I believe she is wearing exactly what you claimed Maman had on when she accosted you in the market place this morning.”
“Yes,” Richard grumbles suddenly almost meek. “I believe apologies are in order. Good work on catching our thief Officer Myers and Officer Best, but who the hell is she?”
