Warning: cruising and mention of Jessica’s case
It had been difficult ever since Justin left. You had started dating him after he and Jessica broke up. It was somewhat soon, but not too soon that you thought you were just a rebound. You loved him. You had thought he loved you. Now, you weren’t so sure; he left so easily. When your best friend Clay told you that he wanted to try to get him to come back so he could testify in Jessica’s case, you were hesitant.
“Clay, I don’t want to see him.”
“(Y/N), this isn’t about you. It’s about Jessica.”
“Everything’s always about Jessica.”
“Stop being so selfish. I’m trying to make things right.”
“Get someone else to help you, Clay.”
Somehow even after the conversation, he convinced you to go with him to Jessica’s house. That was when you saw the postcard. You were hurt, but Clay didn’t seem to notice.
“(YN)! We can go find him!”
“Clay, there is no we. Justin clearly doesn’t care about me. Everyone was right. I was his fucking rebound,” you started to cry.
Nothing seemed to stop Clay from trying to figure out how to bring Justin home. When you saw him at Liberty High you just about lost your shit.
“(Y/N)?” you heard the all too familiar voice. You turned around and looked into his sad eyes.
“You shouldn’t have come back here,” you mumbled.
“Can we talk?”
“I don’t want to talk to you.”
“Clay told me what you said. It’s not true. You weren’t a rebound.”
“Then why did Jessica get a postcard, and I didn’t?” you wanted to yell, but somehow contained yourself.
“I didn’t know what to say after I just left. It’s not easy.”
“But it was so easy to tell Jessica how you felt, right? Justin, I’m done with this, okay? I waited way longer than I should have, and I’m done.”
“(Y/N), please-”
“I passed up dates for you. I had all this hope that you were coming back, and you never fucking did, Justin. You never did. I wish you just stayed wherever the hell you were because this just hurts too much.” You stormed off.
Justin watched you sadly. “Look, Justin,” Clay said. “You can't worry about her right now. We have to focus on making things right with Jessica.”

ok but clay’s thoughts manifesting as hannah was so unnecessary in my opinion. we know clay saw hannah as this perfect being. i understand that grief is different for everyone and Katherine is fantastic, but i feel like they could have used that screen time for much more wisely.
is everything everything worth reading before watching the movie?? i wanna read more but i also wanna watch more movies so i’m conflicted which i should do first??
