"World Standard" is how Cadillac was dubbed at the dawn of its development, and it lived up to this title for many years, being the largest luxury automaker in the United States. Founded by Henry Leland in 1902, the firm targeted the luxury market from the very beginning. Her first inventions were interchangeable parts, an electric starter, a hardtop body, and a V8 engine. In 1909, Cadillac became part of the General Motors concern and has been its luxury division ever since.

Pre-war Cadillac cars were the most expensive, prestigious and sophisticated on the market, featuring high performance, quietness and smoothness. Developed in 1930, the Cadillac V16 with a unique 16-cylinder engine producing 175 hp, and the Cadillac V12 that followed it, were unrivaled in terms of performance and interior finish. Even during the Great Depression, they continued to be in demand among the richest clients. Nearly all chassis were fitted with factory bodies from Fisher or Fleetwood, available in a variety of paint and interior finishes from Harley Earl's Art & Color studio.

In 1941, all Cadillac cars were combined on the same chassis with a V8 engine. The lineup consisted of relatively cheap Series 61 fastbacks, Series 62 coupes, convertibles and sedans, exclusive Series 60 Special sedans and Series 75 luxury limousines. After the war, the company continued to produce them and retained these names until the early 60s. With the introduction of the overhead valve 5.4-liter engine in 1949, the power and volume of cylinders began to grow every year and at the end of the 50s. reached 345 hp, respectively. and 6.4 liters. At the same time, the dimensions and weight of serial Cadillacs, which symbolized wealth, prestige and the limit of the American dream, increased.

Looks like Cadillac is about to get back into the executive sedan segment. The Cadillac Escala prototype speaks about this almost in plain text: even its name is translated from Spanish as "scale".
The concept car turned out to be larger not only than the current flagship CT6 model, but also potential competitors, including the Mercedes-Benz S-Class - Escala stretched out in length by 5.35 m. It is built on the CT6 platform and slightly resembles its back, but here's the front bears a previously aggressive character not typical for the brand.

According to the head of Cadillac Johan de Neissen, Escala demonstrates another round of development of corporate design, and it is possible that future production models of the brand will look not only monumental, but also somewhat avant-garde. It is also possible that serial Cadillacs will soon receive OLED-based headlights implemented on the concept.

Interestingly, the Escala, which rests on the road with 22-inch wheels, is not a sedan: the concept received an unconventional liftback body for this segment.

OLED technology was also used in the interior of the concept. The driver's workplace received three curved monitors, which not only display all the necessary information, but also serve to control additional functions. In addition, the concept is equipped with a voice control system. The number of physical buttons in the interior is kept to a minimum. Rear passengers received their own tablets, which are able to hide in the headrests of the front seats.

The Escala's interior is said to be trimmed with materials to provide maximum tactile comfort, with much of the finishing done by hand. The designers of the brand said that they were building an interior in which it would be equally comfortable to sit behind the wheel and move around on the back sofa. Escala received a 4.2-liter turbocharged V8, the characteristics of which are not called. It is only known that this motor is also a concept of its kind, since in the future it will be installed on production models. Moreover, it is promised that he will become the progenitor of a new motor family.
Cadillac Escala
The serial prospects of Escala are not yet directly spoken about. Johan de Neissen said that potentially Cadillac is ready to add a model larger than the CT6 to its lineup, but this depends primarily on market needs and on the potential for development of the full-size luxury sedan segment.
