It’s something he hadn’t expected to do in that moment. Something he hadn’t thought through very much, but did it anyway. Benji’s vision settles on Grace, wide and full of bewilderment— did I really just do that? 

Kissing Grace was something he’d thought of a million times. A million and one times, even. He’d thought about his hand ghosting her cheek, fingers twisting in her hair, hands skimming the curve of her waist. He’d thought about the softness of her lips, how they’d feel against his own. But he’d never acted upon it, no.

Never, until now.

Hands settled on the sides of her cheeks, a breath of air escapes his lips like a shock. Slowly, his hands fall from her cheeks, but merely rest above the curve of her waist, he can’t help himself. This is Grace at hand— Grace who he’s too far gone for. He can’t even deny the pull he feels toward her anymore. For months it’d been ‘no I don’t like Grace, she’s my friend’. Everyone and their mother knew that was a bold faced lie.

“I–” He peeps out, swallowing harshly, nervously. His eyes meet hers, searching for any form of regret, and he’s pretty sure his heart skips a beat when there’s no hesitation or dejection present. And then he smiles and it’s like everything’s fallen into place.

“I’ve kind of been wanting to do that for a while,” he says, biting the bullet and getting straight to the point. He ducks his head, a smile forming on his lips then looks right back at her. He knows the chances of college romances not lasting, but with Grace he feels like it could be something real. “Like, a really long time it’s kind of embarrassing,” he says with a smile.
