They had spotted each other when he arrived at the party. A subtle nod, because she knew he would be there. He had told her he wanted to come to Carroll and fucking risk it all, and Lilith told him how keeping a woman required a bit of that kind of effort, and keeping a woman like Autumn Manchester was a whole other league. How miserable he would be without her. First, he let his wife play him like he was checkers, not chess, and Lilith was there to shake him up, and now this? Why was Lilith even helping him now when he let her down so much?
"I thought I'd catch you here." Well, he saw her leave with a guy and return by herself some time later, so, naturally, he was looking for that tiny post-quickie smirk on her face. He offered her one of the two mocktails he had gotten for them before approaching his friend, then took a sip of his, smiling at Lilith. For some reason, he couldn't find the right words to start, so he picked the easiest route: "We danced... And kissed... I think she sees what she means to me."
