One of the more passionate political figures in our area, Eric Ulrich offered us a very open, honest and from-the-heart interview to air in our documentary.

We spoke openly about the way he felt upon seeing the devastation the Rockaways suffered. He also opened up about the challenges he faces as a public official when trying to make the voices of community heard.

He solidly singles out 2010 candidate Bob Turner as his favorite candidate for the race, which makes me think that Bob Turner likely has the Republican nomination.

Maggie Haberman relays that a source familiar with the discussions says a decision on the Democratic candidate will come by mid-next week.

I've heard that the Republican County Chairs just started interviewing candidates in full this week, when it was originally thought to be sooner, so I don't want to jump to conclusions again, but I'd think that the Democrats are likely to move forward post-haste.

Because Queens Councilman Eric Ulrich seems hesitant to jump into this race, Democrats would be tactically wise to put a strong candidate forward quickly if they are able, as it would encourage the Republicans' strongest candidate to be even more hesitant.
