Short clip from Heretics of Science: Prof Eric Laithwaite
Just a repeat of the video clip I included with a previous progress update on my propulsion concept. I didn't see it in my youtube list so I re-uploaded it. 20 second clip used for educational purposes.
And again, many of us have had the same idea of paired gyros acting like propellers, each spinning in the opposite direction. Put them close together, not spaced far apart. Propellers need a long span to get lift, but the tighter a circle gyros turn the stronger the precession effect. Putting them right next to each other would be optimal.
I figure people have been trying to patent the base concept for over 20 years. Due to patent “pirates” who would apply for a patent and then finish the process after someone else was making money off the idea, patents in the US are now from the date of application, not the date of issue. That would mean that if a patent was awarded for the base concept it would go to someone who applied over 20 years ago and immediately become public domain. It might not seem fair, but if they didn’t get a patent then they likely didn’t have a good enough working model to convince the “engineers”. No undeniable unquestionable working model, no patent. I haven’t seen my specific design anywhere and want it to be public domain. Besides that, there’s so much “pre-existing art” and so forth, including the Heretics of Science TV series, that getting a patent decades later is practically impossible. So that pretty well crushes any patent troll’s dreams of quickly filing for a patent, claiming parallel development, and making any money off it. Patent trolls ruined that for all the other trolls years ago.
And also again there’s ancient Indian manuscripts describing flying machines and one that describes a gyroscope used as a propulsion device. It was likely 2 gyros so close together someone assumed it was just 1. I didn’t get inspiration from that, but rather I saw that my design was likely an explanation. And this also qualifies as a pre-existing design available to the public to further crush any patent attempts, dating back at least a few decades in being made available to the general public, and a few centuries otherwise if I recall correctly.
I have more parts and pieces to build a working model, just need to get my head straight and put it all together. It’ll be something more like the above clip with the one gyro pushing the cart along instead of the ones like people keep trying to make fly around the room. Power to weight ratio isn’t likely to be so good it’ll replace propellers on planes and helicopters, but it works perfectly for the vacuum of space and enclosures to prevent kicking up mud / silt underwater, and all I need to illustrate that is something like the one gentleman used in the episode but with hands off operation.
Then we can watch physicists heads spin trying to rewrite Newton’s Laws and half the laws of physics to account for this. Just crushing scientific dogma with an in your face working model is enough for me, and credit for breaking the laws of physics is shared with all the countless other people that have had the same idea over several decades.
So why share this and not hog all the glory for a good working model? I could get hit by a truck tomorrow or die of a heart attack and I’d like for someone to actually build the thing if I don’t get around to it.
Why All Roller Coaster Enthusiasts Should Know the Name Eric Laithwaite
I guarantee you'll remember his name after reading this article:
There are several names synonymous in the roller coaster and theme park community: Karl Bacon, Ed & Dana Morgan, Anton Schwarzkopf, Walter Bolliger & Claude Mabillard and Walt Disney, among many others.
But one in particular seems to have fallen by the wayside – Eric Laithwaite. And yet every enthusiast who’s ever enjoyed a modern, launched roller coaster owes those very thrills to him, because…

Mercury Vortex Engine Revisited
Mercury Vortex Engine Revisited
I want to revisit something I wrote about before, but feel I was way too wordy about. (Also, I had to show my wife that the word "wordy" is actually a word and not slang, as per the Merriam Webster Dictionary.) I had written a bit about the "mercury vortex engine" mentioned in the controversial text "Vimanika Shastra" which was mentioned in an episode of Ancient Aliens.
Putting a Read More break here due to length.
