“It’s not--” A hitch in their breath interrupts them, followed by a coughing fit that has them trying not to squirm and spasm on the jagged, broken rebar protruding from their chest just millimeters from their heart. Of COURSE they’d survive the fall but get skewered on the debris-- that’s just their luck. Perhaps this is simply to balance out the ridiculously good luck they had had in successfully killing their father-- a life for a life. If they had the energy, they’d laugh about it and how cruel fate is, but they don’t. They DO, however, find just enough energy to reach for Keisuke’s hand in what is SUPPOSED to be a comforting gesture for him, but it ends up looking more like a desperate attempt to latch onto something.
“It’s not that bad,” Kaira finally finishes. A blatant lie, but one they tell regardless. Then there’s another pause before they speak again. “You’ll take care of the kids when I’m gone, right? You and Yuu-kun both. I trust you both to take care of them. And Hana-chan--”Â
Another coughing fit, and this time they have to pull down the mask in some vain attempt to prevent it from being further stained with blood before they speak again. “Tell Hana-chan not to worry. That I’m sorry for leaving her. And... I’m sorry for leaving you too. But you’re strong. I think you’ll be alright.” The grin they offer is weary, and bit by bit their grip on his hand loosens. By now it’s a struggle to even keep their eyes open.
“If you do anything stupid, I’ll still be there to kick your ass. Even if I have to dig my way out of my grave. That’s a promise. And I don’t break my promises.”Â
It’s hard to keep for long, though. They’re gone within moments of uttering such a promise.
