This topic interests me because it affects me and my future. I am at the point in my life where a choice is going to be made about my future career goals and there are other women going through the same thing and the situation comes up where there are going to be moments where I can discriminated against based off my gender and I have to fight against it. Â I refuse to allow society to hold me back because of my gender when I put in the time and effort to get to the place I want to be at. My own mother has gone through these same issues in her life, but she overcame them and now has her own successful business. If she let this kind of gender oppression affect her, she wouldnât be the leader that she is today and I want that for myself and other women.
The evolution of human rights have come a long way in this country and everyday people are still fighting for equal rights among the sexes. Some people in this day and age still argue that gender discrimination doesnât exist anymore, or that âwhat more can women complain about? They are pretty much equal to menâ. If that were the case, why are women still be paid 78 cents to the dollar that a man makes? Or, why is it that women canât be seen as leaders, but if put in leadership role are categorized as a âbitchâ? Â The purpose of this blog will be to focus on the biased perceptions of womenâs leadership abilities. This kind of topic needs to be discussed because it is so relevant today and people donât think itâs real. There are just as many women going into the workforce as there are men. There are just as many men competing for the same job as women. There are just as many men getting an education for a better job as women are. However, women still have the disadvantage all because of their sex.
This kind of issue contributes to oppression on the basis of gender because there are women who work hard and put their time to create a career for themselves and have a good future, but are withheld from being promoted or treated fairly because they are simply not a man. These women arenât being judged for their abilities to accomplish their work goals, or their intelligence, but by their gender.
This kind of issue should be discussed because if nothing is done about this, this sends a message to future generations of women that no matter how hard they work for something, they are never going to get as close to the top as a man just because they were born female. They can put in all their effort and still wonât succeed half as much as a man did and this wonât help anyone. Girls across the country will always look at themselves second best and that is not the message we can allow these girls to have.
