I was thinking how Mickey's journey in this game is about him making up for the fact that he ruined the lives of hundreds of people, like let's take the guy that is very nice and likes helping people and making friends and let's make him face the reality that he has actually hurt a lot of people in the process and no matter how nice he always is, the way to fame IS going to lead to sacrifices.

It's clear they are sacrifices he didn't make, they just sort of ... happened.

Epic Mickey is in a weird limbo of self awareness. It seems like everyone other than Mickey understands that they are all cartoon characters. When Mickey sees Oswalds old cartoons he asks 'is he an actor?'. What do you mean 'an actor', Mickey. I assume that's how he sees himself but sir, you are a cartoon character.

And it's extra strange thae when Mickey visits Horace and Clarabelle he doesn't remember them AT ALL. Why wouldn't he remember them AT ALL???

And the game doesn't dwell on this but in a way I feel like Epic Mickey is such a perfect set up for Mickey to basically face the evils of being the mascot of disney.

Mickey doesn't mean any harm but he causes harm. Mickey is just having fun with his friends, but people will be pushed under the bus while he still gets all the fame and glory for his adventures. Mickey is well meaning and when he sees he has caused all of these problems he offers his help, but why were these problems hidden from him? Why didn't he know this sooner? Why doesn't he remember Horace and Clarabelle???????

And it's like... oh. Mickey is a victim of Disney too. (At least you know, the fictional character is. I don't mean to say don't be mean to the mascot of this giant corporations lol It's a metaphor in the context of this wii game is all)

But you get what I mean? Mickey is used by Disney, he is this cute face to plaster all over their merchandise when in reality there is so much evil underneath it. And he isn't aware of the evil cause he is meant to be the cute mascot character but this game is kind of like... the metaphorical way to open his eyes to the truth. That he hurts people even if he doesn't mean it.

Yeah, sure, in the game he just makes a little mistake with thinner and paint, but it's called a metaphor for a reason.

And it's interesting that you can also make moral choices in this game. Should you use people, discard them like nothing for your own benefit, take the easy way out that will ultimately benefit you? Or will you actually be that good person that you say you are?

If the game wasn't owned by Disney they would 100% make these connections, it's all right there. Hell, the game tries so hard to have a cute little homage to Walt Disney but the more you think about it it's just super fucked that he abandoned Oswald and favored the 'son' that made him profitable. Like, with a bit of rework, Epic Mickey could be such a big middle figger to Walt disney and the Disney corporation.

Have Oswald and Wasteland represent the evils Disney causes, the evils Mickey is associated with and he ends up causing even if he wouldn't want to. Have Oswald wish to have that same fame and glory, one that only isolates him from his loved ones and is not something he should want. Point out that he would just be becoming like the people that made him and his friends and family end up on the situation he ended up in. Show the ugly side of Disney, have Mickey slowly put the pieces together, make this metaphor work. Have the original Disney mascot and the life long Disney mascot say fuck you to Walt Disney and the Disney corporation itself.
