We continued our journey, stopping in Epernay, Tours sur Marne, Chalons-en-Champagne, then Vitry-le-Francois. Epernay is at the heart of Champagne country, in good measure because it sits on the Marne. As we exited the Canal Lateral de la Marne we saw the muddy river flying past. Turning into it we immediately felt the strong current. We chugged the 4 kilometers to the marina to find the harbor…

Heady once the cork flew. Toast, brioche, honey, butter and sugar cane overtones take turns to prop up the lemonade bouquet. Fine mousse tickles on entry, seguing into a remarkable display of vigor and depth to the yellow stone fruit core. This creamy luxury matures well with no shortage of scintillating acidity. Great richness, great length. Admittedly not very big on bubbly, let alone one with serious age, but this is just splendid! — ★★★★
