he's orphaned at a young age and gets take in by the well off owner of the company his dad worked for (the grandad from the love in your eyes), who makes his son and daughter in law adopt him--they hate him, naturally, but they're both bumbling bozos so so far (as far as i can tell) they're mostly harmless, though of course he can sense their intense dislike for him. anyway he went away to study in the u.s. and his adopted grandpa--who does genuinely adore him--made him come back and like i guess their family company builds houses or whatever and the corporate whatever is having a competition and it's him and his brother up against each other (he's an architect). he decides to move out--

she hugs him when he says jiankang is cold and when he looks at her with his face full of everything he feels for her (a deep and abiding affection, gratefulness, wonder, like he wants to take care of her, like he wants to spend the rest of his life with her) but still with some restraint, she looks away; at the lantern shop she just hands a lantern to him and says it's a gift, says she can get him any lantern he wants and even the whole shop; and then when he recites some pretty lines about regrets and wanting a kiss, she kisses him and then hides her face. like the way she flirts with him is by beating him up/hitting him and threatening him, she's not (yet) used to all this open tenderness and sweetness. but she's trying! she wants it and she's trying, even though it's all new to her and it doesn't come smoothly or without real effort for her.
