One thing I’ve noticed is the pronunciation is sometimes unusual, I’m not sure how Carew is pronounced but I've never heard it pronounced quite like that before. Interestingly, she pronounces ‘reform’ as REE-form, whereas I usually hear it said ruh-FORM which is interesting in itself because usually in British English the stress is on the first half rather than the second (see British English AD-ult to the American a-DULT)
I would add that regarding the controversy of Tyndale, it’s not just about vernacular bibles and corruption as I’ve said before- Catholic humanists were interested in both those things also the Lollards say hi. It’s about the translation of words like metanoia and caritas. It’s about sole fide versus good works, double predestination versus single predestination.
Also, as she said, evangelicals were based in scripture, but scripture did matter to Catholics too. Evangelicals believed in sola scriptura: if it’s not in the Bible, it's not valid. Catholics like Thomas More argued that you could have practices not based in scripture, because one of the gospels says that Jesus taught more than things than were recorded in a book. Therefore, sola scriptura wasn’t enough, because even if scripture was correctly interpreted, scripture didn't cover all of Jesus’ teaching.
To be fair to Cardinal Wolsey, he was relatively relaxed as far as persecution went. It should be noted that the people burned before the Break with Rome were mostly scholars and preachers, and all heretics had one chance to recant. That doesn't make it a good thing, obviously, but it's not the same as the persecution of Anne Askew, or the poor and disabled burned during the reign of Mary, or the utter n I g h t m a r e that is the story of Perrotine Massey.
Also Anabaptists were burned under Cranmer during the reign of Edward VI and during the reign of Elizabeth just saaaaaayin
He did have a mistress as Claudia said, though if the ‘secret mistress’ she is referring to is Joan Larke, Joan and Wolsey broke up early in Henry VIII’s reign IIRC and I don't know if he had any more known mistresses. Also Wolsey and Joan were the priestly equivalent of a common law marriage, which was seen as less of a big deal, IIRC, because at that time he wasn't a high ranking priest.
Furthermore (sorry!) anticlericalism was a thing in medieval culture, it wasn't invented by the Reformation, Chaucer criticised and mocked bad priests and indulgences in his writing while still being a Catholic, but the Reformation was kind of a perfect storm
Episodes 7+8
