The next day Enie woke up kinda late, with a headache, like most times she drink a bit too much but it wasn’t unbearable thankfully. What was worrying was the lack of memory from last night but she could always ask the inn owner.

With a sign she got up slowly but half way up she lay back down directly one hand over her tummy the other over her mouth feeling her head spin and her stomach dancing like crazy.

"……..What did I drink last night?" She wonders to herself while taking slow deep breaths. "I swear this is the last time I’m drinking this much…Even if it’s to forget that damn idiot." She grumble to herself and attempt to get up once again, this time managing to drag herself out of her bed and down the stairs.

Good thing number one: She didn’t throw up

Good thing number two: She didn’t have a drunk smell on her thankfully.

She make her way to the stool and the inn owner, sitting slowly and resting her face on the counter with a sigh.

"Well, someone finally decide to come say hi. How’s your head, little Enie?" Ask the inn owner like a grandfather could ask how your weeks have been.

"My head is trying to put two and two together. Did I do something dumb last night boss?" She ask lifting her head just enough to watch the old man face as he put a glass of milk in front of her a knowing smile on his face.

"Nothing out of the ordinary, don’t worry. You just start complaining about the hero like always until you get to bed with the help of someone." He say his knowing smile still on his face making the girl even more suspicious as she adjust herself on her seat, lifting her head to rest it on her hand and taking the glass of milk in her hand.

"Friend? What friend?" She drink her glass slowly.

"Don’t worry, nothing happened, they were, a charming gentleman for sure." Laugh the old man.

Enie just look at him like he grew a second head, since she didn’t talk to that many people, so for some random guy to be consider by him of all people like “charming” and “gentleman” like it was even more weird. She sigh.

"How much for last night? I mean if I drank like crazy, I imagine I’m getting a reduction on my pay no?"

The old man just laugh. 

"Don't worry Enie, it’s on the house this time. I haven’t laughed like that in a very long time." He then look at her with his commercant eyes. "But I hope I’ll be able to count on you for your performance on the night service for the next week without you having even a drop of alcohol in your blood."

Enie just sigh in defeat knowing that she couldn’t say no, the old man got her good since he knew what crazy stuff she did. And if she wanted to keep some reputation she might do as he ask. She finish her glass and stand up ready to leave.

"Ay, ay! Don’t worry old man I’ll be there." She say while stretching with a yawn and rub her face to wake herself up some more.

"Also."

"Hm?" She look at the moment with a raise eyebrow.

"Your friend was really worried for you, you know? He intervened directly when some drunkards tried to approached you." He laugh lightly. "To be honest I would have dealt with them myself with my frying pan ready as always, but when I saw the look on his face, I decided to let him do it himself "

Enie just look at him half perturbed now by who was her savior and kinda hoping it wasn’t someone in particular. She then wave to the old man and walk out of the inn.

Walking along the street of the busy town, the fresh smell of bread and other baked stuff the bakers put on their windows to cool down, with the smell of other fresh cook food in the morning somehow helped with her headache and her troubled stomach. Quickly (but not too quickly let’s be real for a sec) she made her way out of town and toward the forest to the nearest lake close to the town. 

She needed to wake up so this would be the easiest way to get rid of her hangover too. 

Enie look around, behind bushes, rocks, trees, everywhere to make sure she was alone, then make her way back to the lake and put her mandolin down, getting undress and jump directly in the lake, the cold water engulfing her completely before she swim back to the surface moving her hair out of her face and swim back to the edge leaning against it to relax, the only thing visible of her being her arms since she rest them on the grass with her head and her cleavage from the water level not reaching higher. She was finally relaxing.

"I knew I would find you here."

She jump in surprise and quickly goes deeper in the water covering herself with her arms looking at the owner of the voice.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE, LINK?!" She ask…More like yell at the top of her lungs which in the morning kinda give some strangle notes making the hero cough to hide a laugh while he raises both hands in surrender.

"Easy, I was checking on you." He explain with a small sweat running down his face, she was glaring at him in the water with only her eyes and nose visible, more than probably insulting him from the multiples bubbles he could see in the water. "And please don’t try killing me with your eyes, I was just wondering how you were doing that all."

She was fulming and point an accusing finger at him.

"WHILE I’M TAKING A BATH?! TRY AGAIN PERVERT!!! WHEN I’LL GET OUT YOU BETTER BE AT THE OTHER SIDE OF THE KINGDOM OR I’LL BURY YOU ALIVE!!!!"

"….That bad uh…" He sigh and sat on the grass, his back facing her. "I won’t look, don't worry. You're the only one I wouldn’t pry on, since I know you’ll go with your menace." He explains.

Enie just look at him suspicious and swim back to the edge leaning against it once more, still wary of the brunette, surprise it was one of those day he would act like someone “normal” and not a damn flirt or an idiot.

"What do you want then? You said you wanted to check on me?"

Link hum, glancing slightly at the girl back a small frown on his face at the two larges scars situate on her omoplates, a small white feather like marking hiding under her hair on her neck and the triforce mark on her back, even if the one on the top look full compare to the other two. The big triforce-like mark on her back was situate in the center, big, large, like it was engrave on her skin from birth, but he knew better from all the times she threatened him to just try acknowledging her as his guardian.

He didn’t answer the girl question just ask one back.

"….Does it hurt?" He ask while turning his face again to look at the tree in front of him as she turn her head toward him with a raise eyebrow.

"Does “what” hurt exactly?"

"…You’re back… Does it hurt right now?" He ask again, glancing quickly behind him.

Enie look at him a bit surprise, then sigh rubbing her face annoyed.

"It was you, the “gentleman” who helped me last night, aren’t you? Okay, go on tell me what stupid stuffs I told you yesterday while I was wasted." she say in defeat, already thinking the worst.

"Nothing stupid don’t worry." He say, trying to reassure her, but she knew better and splash him. "….Okay, that on me for thinking you would believe what I say, my apologies." He say not even phase by the sudden shower. He sigh and lay down and cover his eyes with her vest nearby so she wouldn’t think he was looking at her. "If you really wanna know, you just complained about me the entire time. Then at one moment you were about to blurt your secret in front of everyone. So I get you to your room, we talked for a bit longer and then I walk out ... .Oh yeah and I almost broke the wrist of some drunk guy who tried to hit on you, that's all. You’re satisfied now or you're gonna soak me up again?" He ask obviously used to her, like she was to him.

"….Yeah…Thanks for helping me out…and uh…sorry for yesterday's troubles…"

"It’s okay…So…how’s your back?" He ask again softly.

"Today’s fine…It doesn’t hurt for now, don’t worry…" she say simply not looking at him

He nod from his position on the floor, thinking all over about the girl behind him and all she went through as well as the triforce of power “missing” .

"Ya know, the princess is still pestering me about the accident of the stolen triforce of power."

She sigh rolling her eyes

"With all due respect to her majesty I don’t think that my problem Link. Sound more like a “you” business."

"Ah! You wound me!" He say dramatically a hand over his heart.

"I wish." She deadpan.

"I know. More seriously, it’s as much of a “me problem” as yours since you're the one who got it."

She roll her eyes.

"I know, but you don’t need to breath on my neck every few seconds you know? It’s not like anyone can take it from me. Or would know I have it."

"Why do you think I saved you from those guys yesterday?" Another splash of water. "…..Okay, my bad again, I know how that sound, but I didn’t mean it like that." He still got splash once more and just sigh. "…If I pay you a bottle am I forgiven?"

"Maybe." She sigh annoyed and get out of the water, the hero staying put as she dries herself and get dress back.

"What I mean is that imagine if they dragged you somewhere then they would have found out ... .Or yeah no, I don’t think that many people would even understand, but my point still stand."

As Enie was taking her vest off the hero’s eyes he gently grab her wrist and look at her dead in the eyes. 

"My mission was to protect the triforce, then to find the triforce of power back. So I have to protect you. And even if you didn’t had it, I would have still intervened and you know it. I know you don’t like me, but your still someone dear to me...as surprising as it may sound for you."

Despite looking surprise mouth slightly agape, the blond just shakes her head, some droplets of water falling on the hero’s face not fazing him as she sigh.

"So I’m not one of your many once a day flirt? That surprising." Enie reply, crossing her arms

The hero just laugh looking at her with a tiny smirk.

"We both know you would kill me if I just dare to try flirting with you if you aren’t drunk a minimum." He answer like it was obvious

"Oh, ha. Ha. Ha. I’m rolling on the floor right now." She roll her eyes and snatch her wrist out of his hold with no difficulties as well as her vest and turn her back toward him. Her backless top showing the scars and the triforce mark on her back before she put her vest back on.

"The white feather at the back of your neck…It’s a distinction to….you know?" He ask

The turn her head, glancing at him, her hand passing over the mark with her finger as she sigh.

"Yeah…It is…Just like the other one…, but the feather is on a different part of our body for each of us." She explain

He nod.

"Okay, I see….Thanks for telling me…." He say looking at the girl but knowing she still got more secrets. Secrets he wouldnt try to find out about, like she wouldnt try to find out about his.

To say Enie got a drinking problem, wasn’t unknow…well…It clearly wasn’t, most people knew about it and only the princess knew why (you can all guess to I’m pretty sure. Your all smart cookies)

Anyway, this night again, she was at the local tavern, drinking after a very long day of work. The tavern wasn’t exactly an establishment of bad frequentation. The patron of the place was a nice man who knew the girl for a while too, landing her a room for free since she performs every day and night making his business run. The only thing really worrying him was the fact some not really good person could walk in there too; looking absolutely normal until they start drinking and hit on the girl way too drunk to realize it or she just didn’t care. 

Tonight, tho someone else decide to walk in the tavern looking around the cozy place, full of tables, a counter, many person drinking, laughing or just eating. The eyes of the person land on the short haired blond aswell as the group of men walking toward her. They all look drunk as they tried to flirt. The young man walks quickly toward them and grabs one of the men's hands before he touches her, sending them off with a small edge to his voice.

I think you should call it a night my good sirs. He say softly his hold on the man's wrist getting tighter until they grimace and he finally let go while they “run” out of the tavern.

He sigh looking at the girl and sat on a stool next to her with a sigh.

Enie, what are you doing here?

The girl turn her head to look at him her face red she was already tipsy apparently as she laugh

Ooooooh who are you? You look like that annoying hero I knoooow.

….Ah…Okay, that awesome you already drunk THAT much. He sighs, rubbing his face. Okay little bard, and how is that hero sooo annoying, hm? He asks with a tiny smirk even if he knew it would be a long night seeing her like that was kinda cute compare to the death glare she always gave him when she is sober.

Enie look at him and puffs her cheeks slightly resting her arms on the counter to rest her cheeks on her arms.

It’s just that he’s always soooo annoying. She grumble. I know he’s smart when he wants to be. But noooooooo, he have to flirt everytime and play the big strong hero every time a lady is around! She grumbles at the end. I swear he only thinks with his tiny worm and throws his brain in a lake. She say with a very serious face, while he was trying to not spite his water at what she just said.

W-well, maybe he didn’t throw his brain in the river to only think with his…tiny…Worm… He answers back between coughs, not believing he just insult himself willingly like that. The hero then clears his throat, his pride already agonising on the floor. But besides that, do you hate him that much? He asks, since she was more honest like that than she is when sober.

The girl tilt her head slightly, kinda like a child thinking.

Not really. He can be of good company sometimes… She looks at him, her head balancing slightly as she whispers to him. You promise to not repeat what I’m telling you, right?

The hero try not to snort and lift his right hand

Of course. I promise it’s gonna stay between us, “he” won’t know a thing about it.

The owner of the tavern for his part was trying to not laugh as well while the hero gave him a boyish grin with a finger over his mouth so he wouldn’t say anything. For her part Enie didn’t notice because OBVIOUSLY the girl is drunk as fluff as she continues.

Well I actually don’t mind him, when he shuts his mouth to not say his usual “ ExcUsE me PRincEss” he’s not bad to look at...and it kill me to admit it.

Second time he choked on his water tonight because of something she said.

Y-You find him good looking? His pride survive

The girl grumbles ruffling her hair and he uses this chance to switch her alcohol drink to water.

Of course not! I kinda enjoy his company too, ya know? But only when he don’t flirt or act almighty because he’s the heeerooo. EVERYONE AROUND THE DAMN KINGDOM KNOWS!!!! She says moving her arms around and almost hitting him before she calms back down. Everyone knows, …he don’t need to keep on playing the proud idiot just because he thinks it makes him more interesting…It just made me want to punch him. She grumble lifting her fist up with an angry frown before she gulp down her glass of water, the owner of the tavern quickly refilling her glass when the hero signal him to do so discreetly, while he’s unsure on how to react to what she just said…IT was both sweet and kinda scary at the same time.

And what if he stopped being like that with you, would that make you stop wanting to punch him? He asks unsure and a bit hopeful to avoid a potential beating. She already threw him in the river once because he annoyed her, who knew what else she’s capable of with her bard strengh?

I don’t know, maybe? I mean he can be nice too and he’s not bad to look at, even if it’s not normal how muscle he is. She says seriously as he tries not to laugh.

Muscle? you mean muscular? He snort quietly, honestly seeing her like that was kinda cute when she wasn’t throwing hands around. Plus the free compliments he get from the girl were a bonus too and he was clearly enjoying it, since he was use to sarcasm or people just enjoying his look for obvious reasons and the profit they could get from being close to him. 

She wasn’t like that tho. She keep to herself most of the time and stay serious and on guard with everyone, especially him, when he learn her biggest secret and kept it from the princess herself. After the defeat of Ganon and the second disparition of the triforce, no one knew where it was beside him, when he put two and two together after the disappearance of the bard and the constant wearing of her vest hiding her back.

He knew what she was supposed to be, but never forced her…she kinda threatened him when he found out so it make him accept to keep her secret for a second reason. The first one being the fast passage of fear on her face when he confronted her about it. Reason why he never said anything when he found out what happened after.

And on point the girl slightly rub her back and he knew she was about to say stuff she shouldn’t tell in front of other people. so he cut her short, landing a hand on her head.

It’s getting late, no? I’m gonna help you up to your room, okay?

The girl jumps in surprise and looks at him confuse.

Why would you help me? I don’t know you. She say sleepily as he get up and pick her up the owner of the tavern pointing the stairs at him. He nod and quickly make his way upstairs and to her room to sat her on her bed before she kept talking. while he pant leaning against the close door as Enie let herself fall on her side. Sometimes my back hurts…

He sat on the floor and look at the girl, pretty sure he knew what she was talking about.

…How often?

I didn’t count…But it became more frequent after what I did…Or maybe it’s just this body that can’t handle what I'm supposed to be… She say a bit more coherent than before. He noticed it too and walked closer to the girl leaning back from the floor against the bed to look at her. I wonder what my life would be if I had accepted what I was…

It’s gonna be okay, Enie. He rubs her back gently on her omoplates and on the middle of her back, a tiny frown on his face. You’re okay.

The girl just nods and closes her eyes, falling asleep just like that with the usually annoying hero by her side. He knew how to be serious sometimes. He really does. But what makes him more serious is the pain he knew she’s handling and had to handle before.

Once he’ll never admit it to her but he saw her back…The sight wasn’t really pretty and since once she admitted when she was younger leaving her village and family to be an itinerant bard. He knew what it meant. She was chased, and maybe disowned by her family; he also noticed she wasn’t at ease in front of vast expanse of waters. Only having the last gift from her grandfather (his luthe) to accompany her until she reached the kingdom of Hyrule and met him, the princess and everyone else.

He’ll keep her secrets till the end of time, keeping it from the princess itself too even under torture, cause he knew from experience the pain to be what they were. People trap in a destiny they knew nothing of when they were children until it hit them like an army of monsters. So he’ll make sure she can keep her normal life as long as he can, even if that means being damned by the goddesses themself for hiding the knowledge of him knowing where one of the most powerful artefact in their world is. Apparently, a grumpy bard was worth this.

Before leaving the room he heard a slight mumble from the girl.

Sooooo yeah ^^" now you've met Enie ^^" she's the definition of "I drink to forget" on her case all the cringe things link do or say. Personally I don't like alcohol, like at all X(. I prefer water with sirup and that it or maybe some ice tea, coca cola, sumol (it's a real drink :3 a soda portugues a bit special but super good), basic tea and tisanes,... And you Xd you got a favorite drink?

And beside that yeah, alcohol is dangerous so be careful
