#engineering rant

Working in teams can both be a beautiful experience, and an ugly one. In my time in university I have had the joy of experiencing both. As much as I want to be able to say I know which partnerships will work out and which ones will not, I can safely say that I have no idea.  Weirdly enough, the semester that was the hardest and I was living in labs without a life is the semester I had the best teams, and I am so thankful for that. I have learned to appreciate the people that pull their weight, or even try to pull their weight because the past two semesters have been a nightmare. I have learned that it is impossible to force your schedule onto other people. If people have a tendency to procrastinate and have little care for doing things ahead of time, then they are more likely keep that habit. I have also learned that trying to reason with those people and ask for things to be done earlier will often lead to accusations of having “high standards” and “unreasonable expectations.” This semester has taught me that there are very few, next to none, people that can be counted on. It has taught me that I need to learn to adapt and be ready to take the largest workload at the expense of my sanity.  As this semester is drawing to an end, I still am dependent on other team members to pull their weight and that scares the life out of me. There is a massive project deadline next week and I have no idea if half the project will be completed in time or not. It is at the point that even if I wanted to try and take over, it would be too late since the learning curve is too steep.

I need to finish my Palantír blueprint too. Ooh, maybe next month when all my insane schedule stuff falls off….

No shit, Sherlock. Anyone who lives in the 21st century knows that folders can contain other folders and files. Unless you are elderly or live under a big ass rock, YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS ALREADY.
