Burt nods.

The Captain furrows their brow in thought. “Maybe it’s safe on the ship, but we’ll need to start transporting it down to the surface for the colonists eventually. There’s a whole host of things that could go wrong with that -  shuttles crashing, contamination from unknown alien bacteria. How are we supposed to build a thriving colony if we don’t even have a food source?”

“Exactly Captain! You’re always thinking ahead.” Mark pats them on the back. 

Mack rolls his eyes, crossing his arms over his chest. “I wouldn’t call that thinking ahead. We’re still learning about the planet’s environment and seasons. It could be months before we have crops stable enough to support a colony. Are you really willing to make us all sit up here and twiddle our thumbs while we wait? Are you truly naive enough to think it would be as easy as planting some seeds in the ground?”

The Captain sighs, having expected push back from him, but puts on a smile. “Mack, I appreciate your input, really, but I just don’t think it’s the right call.”

“And since when did you become an agricultural expert overnight? I don’t know why the Board thought someone as young as you would be fit to make decisions like this. You’re making a big mistake here Captain, one that could potentially cost the lives of the people on board this ship.”

Normally, the Captain can shrug off his quips and insults. Normally, they can take his criticism with the understanding that Mack truly just wants the best for everyone.
