This little drabble predates the Lestappen baby, but it's when engineer!Charles gets a little upset that Max hasn't officially claimed him yet and basically shows up to the annual RBR holiday party looking like the femme fatale of Max's dreams, sending them into a game of cat-and-mouse as young Alpha Max finally gathers up the courage to confess his love to the sexy older Omega 🤗
Here's a little snippet from the gossip pages from when Charles was 5 months pregnant with his and Max's little girl:
Spotted: Max Verstappen and his baby mama (and race engineer) Charles Leclerc out and about in Portofino, the two of them walking hand in hand as they enjoy the last few days of the summer holiday. It has been surprising to learn that Leclerc has refused to stop working (even as the bump watch scrutiny becomes more intense) and has even told the press: "Why would I step down [as Max's race engineer]? Max and I have won 4 championships together and I'm not going to leave when we're fighting for title number 5."
However, the 2025 season has hardly been going according to plan: With a considerable points deficit that Verstappen is struggling to make up, there is doubt amongst commentators and paddock insiders alike whether the reigning world champion can hold onto his crown. When this was brought up to Leclerc, the Monegasque race engineer merely replied: "If anyone can make up 104 points, it's Max. I know he can."
Leclerc, a graduate of both the International University of Monaco and the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, has been Verstappen's race engineer since the Dutch driver moved to the Red Bull team in 2016, though the couple did not begin dating until late 2024. The couple announced that they were expecting their first child in a joint Instagram post in May 2025, shortly after the Monaco Grand Prix.
The news caused several raised eyebrows not just because of the couple's working relationship, but because of the considerable 12 year age gap. When asked about it, Verstappen simply rolled his eyes: "Age, age, age—that's all you people want to talk about. Well, what about the fact I love [Charles] and haven't looked at anyone else since the day I met him? There's no one else for me, I've met my soulmate."
Verstappen's previous romantic partners are not well known, although there have been photographs of the world champion out and about with some of the biggest names in fashion and modeling. "The models?" Verstappen looked confused when asked about them. "Oh, you mean [my sister's] friends. Yeah, I didn't date them. I just drove Victoria around to her photoshoots and they were there."
The Verstappen-Leclerc baby (nicknamed the "Lestappen" baby by fans), has an expected due date around December 2025.
