Goruck 15L Bullet Ruck in Wolf Grey:
The team have been out over the weekend trying out the new Goruck 15L Bullet Ruck 500D. Not as per the Goruck norm where 1000D is the natural choice of material for their rucks, the 500D initially felt somewhat lacking in strength and ruggedness, but these fears were soon put to one side as it was very apparent why they made the change. The Bullet ruck is designed to be a lightweight alternative to an Every Day Carry daysack, anything thicker would spoil the rapid fast paced feel of this special ruck and indeed would add unnecessary weight, plus Goruck do a fantastic job of splicing and stiching their kit together, it’s strength is more than made up for in its build quality.Â
The 15L is plenty enough space to carry what you require for the day, and in the case of our team, a little cycling through the grey and damp streets of London seemed to befit the Wolf Grey colour scheme of this ruck. The main compartment was large enough to hold an Arcteryx Gore-Tex Jacket, an iPad mini in a protective Pelicase (complete with GITD and Cyflect patch), a 5ft steel cable and bike lock, EDC kit in maxpedition pouch plus other smaller items like gloves, torches and bike lights. The great thing about the main compartment is that is opens fully flat to allow full access to all your kit and greater control of how the kit is laid out. It must be added that there was still tons of space to use up even with all this kit.
The rear compartment is obviously meant for a 3L water bladder or laptop (up to 15″), but instead it was rammed with the other members of the team’s warmers kit (as there was a brief spell of rain) as it was fairly easily accessible to other people whilst being worn by someone. If you do decide to use a water bladder, there’s a useful button/paracord pull that can easily attach to the top of a majority of decent hydration bladders and keep things squared.
In the main compartment you also get a mesh pocket which is mega useful for cables, power packs, spare batteries, EDC kit, essential items that you need to get eyes on fast. Plus the small top zip pocket for small essentials. The external zip pocket is just the right size for a Kindle or passport if you're travelling. You get the added Molle on the external which is perfect for those smaller Molle pouches you have or to attach reflective straps for night time safety.
Overall the Bullet Ruck is an impressive item of kit, the zips are all silent (for you red teaming ninjas!), the built quality is second to none and the customer services of the Goruck guys is faultless. In all counts, the premium that you would pay for one of these is more than worth it. It’s worth noting that Goruck do a 25% discount for all LEO and Military, so drop their sales team a line.
