Excellent turnout for the press event @candidartstrust last night for the official launch of the #campaign to End Bed Blocking. The exhibition is free today (12th October) Candid Arts, Islington, London . Bed Blocking is the term used when a person - usually elderly - is medically fit, but cannot be discharged from hospital due to a lack of suitable care at home. In addition it reduces the number of beds available to other patients and is estimated to cost the NHS between £2.8-£3.5 billion a year - at least £550 a minute. The campaign (www.endbedblocking.org) aims to put the person back at the centre of the issue and start conversation with an aim to find solutions and #endbedblocking by 2025. Already we are seeing more talk and information in the press, thanks to the involvement of artists in the lead up to the launch and the energy and commitment of the team @elder_hq - hopefully this is just the start. . “Bed Of Roses” is the piece I created for the campaign. Paperwork slowing the system is one of the issues that leaves a person trapped in their bed so paper roses ramble through the bed frame, but here the bed would be impossible to lie on. A play on the phrase “Bed of Roses” meaning life is carefree, the piece focuses on the positive outcome so the roses are thorn free and hidden amongst the roses are dragonflies and butterflies - often in life it is the little details that make a difference, like someone knowing exactly how you like your cup of tea. . #endbedblicking #weareillustration #tyvek #artinstallation #art #artistsoninstagram #artist #artspotlight #paper #papersculpture #paperart #paperflowers #paperroses #paperartist #bedofroses #peoplefirst #starttalking #launch #exhibition https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo05i09j7HP/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1elj5la3m6cqv
