Nef Antique Table decorations
A nef is an extravagant table ornament and container in the shape of a ship. Not just used for decoration, it could also be used for serving salt or spices, as well as a container for cutlery, and even napkins.
Typically, crafted in silver, gilded silver, or gold and often further embellished with enamel and precious stones. The ship’s hull was often formed from nautilus shells. Some had wheels so that they could ride from one end of the table to another, but in most cases they have legs or stands.
