Every once in a while, the saddening, tormenting qualities of reality tend to suddenly creep up and viciously sink its teeth into any optimistic prey. And every once in a while, Sojin will find herself sucked deep into a dark pit of never ending despair, no matter how many times she attempts to make herself smile. No matter how much her mind fills itself with thoughts of how things could always be worse, acting as some sort of faulty defense mechanism against both mental and emotional unhappiness.
Her day begins incredibly dreary, even with the sun shining bright in the cloudless, blue sky. Everything appears to be resting on a color scale of boring monochrome tints. It is a day she would rather not have to deal with at all. If not for the important plans she has planned to begin in the next few hours, she would have stayed in her bed until morning came once more. Still, she barely manages to convince herself to leave the minor comfort of her soft bed sheets to prepare herself for the long day ahead. It all just seems like too much to handle at the time. Thus, once she freshens up and is ready to step out into the world (though not really), her steps are thrice as sluggish as she feels.
It’s nothing that can’t be fixed by a little coffee, she thinks, though an unexpected ominous feeling is her first hint to that being far from the truth. Her second clue she derives from the almost unbelievable moment in which she spills the scalding hot beverage onto the delicate skin of her wrist and the ground as soon as she pays for it. Needless to say, after closely examining the scarlet patch of skin located on her arm, she does not even think twice about purchasing anything else hot. And she knows things will only get worse from that point forward.
Her original destination ends up being closed for reasons she does not even bother to find an answer to. Before she can think about hastily returning back to the warmth and comfort of her own home, her keys decide to take a trip to an unknown area that is not the insides of her pockets. Therefore, even if she were to return home, she had no way of opening the door without damaging anything. As she ponders about her current options, that is when the rain starts. At first, it is simply a drizzle, but then it quickly evolves into a shower of immediate dampness for those without an umbrella. Who would have thought an umbrella was needed for a previously cloudless sky?
Entirely soaked and completely fatigued from the horrible events of the past few hours, Sojin figures that she really only has one place left to go. One place where she can receive the warmth and comfort that she desires—that she needs. It is a long walk to trek through the pouring rain and even longer to endure through the internal pain that forces her to trudge forward reluctantly. Fortunately, eventually she gets there, though her makeup is leaking, her clothes drenched, and she is sure she looks as terrible as she feels. Not that it really matters.
"Please be home," she mumbles to herself while knocking on the door. "Please be home."
