Emy plotted!
This was going to be... awkward. It had been a long time since he saw her, after his vanishing act from her apartment some time ago. Perhaps he should have left a note?
Pfft! Like what, goinâ for smokes, be back whenever?
Well, it was done now. It was finished. His itching plan to rise to the top of the criminal underbelly as an infamous crime boss had been completed, in ways he had never initially imagined. So much had happened; perhaps Emy had been able to follow his story via the news? That was likely, actually.
What if she donât wanna know me now? Sâpose she jusâ calls the cops... then Iâd have tâkill her.
He wouldnât have had such thoughts about Emyâs loyalty in the past, but things were different now. Maybe she was too.
Nevertheless, he felt obliged to at least thank her for letting him crash at her place in the days when he had nothing but the clothes on his back and a dream. He wouldâve frozen to death if not for her. It had been winter when they met, after all.
He looked back over his shoulder to the street, the lamps overhead springing to life as dusk fell and began to become night. A mustering breath held in his lungs, then he knocked firmly at her door.
