also, dishonored! somehow it slipped my mind entirely that dishonored is an example of this concept, more or less. i was coming in at three, and i was like wtf, i know there’s more than that. and the southern reach is definitely on my to-read radar for many reasons.

@emptywraith good points! speaking of hidden dangers, i didn’t mention the concept of “crocodile tears” / the associated false pretenses because that doesn’t really apply to the characters themselves, but this reminded me that it DOES apply to characters around them, namely sylens and dame primus. (and several more in arthur’s case, cos the house is full of it, lmao.)

@emptywraith fghsfhgh sorry for anything i’ve spoiled in advance. i can’t get into what i love about it without big spoilers, but the backstory and setting are so rich, and it’s probably the most fun i’ve ever had with unveiling-the-mystery storytelling, and the most i’ve ever anticipated a sequel for the sheer potential. also, this is the only game where i go out of my way to pick fights with things because the combat is so fun.
