Songs That Marked the Beginning of Something I Didnât Understand Yet
Some beginnings donât announce themselves. They donât come with clarity or excitement. They arrive quietly, disguised as ordinary moments.
I didnât know I was at the start of anything when I heard those songs. There was no sense of transition, no feeling that life was about to shift. I was just listeningâfilling space, passing time, letting the days move forward.
Only later did I understand what they marked.
Those songs didnât feel significant at first. They werenât attached to big changes or clear decisions. They simply existed alongside a version of me that was still forming, still unsure of what mattered.
Thatâs what made them powerful.
They became soundtracks to uncertainty. To the in-between period where nothing had fallen apart, but nothing had settled either. They played while I was becoming someone new without realizing it.
Looking back, I can hear it nowâthe beginning.
Not of a moment, but of a mindset. Of learning how to sit with feelings instead of rushing past them. Of choosing familiarity over noise. Of letting things unfold without needing to define them right away. The songs that quietly arrived before I knew what they were preparing me for didnât demand attention, but they stayed.
They didnât explain anything. They didnât promise direction. They simply accompanied me.
Thatâs how I know they mattered.
When I hear them now, they donât pull me backward. They remind me that growth often starts before understanding. That some of the most important shifts happen while you still think everything is the same.
These songs didnât mark an ending. They marked an opening.
And even though I couldnât name it at the time, they were thereâsteady, patientâat the very beginning of something I hadnât learned how to recognize yet.
